Summary:

The Senior Director, Finance serves as a senior financial advisor and fractional/interim CFO-level resource, providing strategic financial leadership, operational oversight, and executive-level counsel. The role partners with executive leadership to strengthen financial performance, cash flow, forecasting, budgeting, capital planning, financial controls, and long-term sustainability. The Finance Consultant evaluates financial and operational results, identifies risks and opportunities, develops actionable recommendations, and helps lead financial initiatives that support organizational strategy and informed decision-making.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic financial advisor to executive leadership, providing CFO-level guidance on financial performance, organizational priorities, growth opportunities, risk, and long-term financial sustainability.

  • Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of internal and external financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), ensuring accurate and timely reporting of financial results.

  • Develop and oversee annual operating and capital budgets, long-range financial plans, rolling forecasts, and financial models. Analyze performance against budget and forecast and recommend corrective actions when needed.

  • Evaluate revenue, expense, margin, productivity, and service-line performance; identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities; and provide actionable recommendations to leadership.

  • Oversee cash flow and liquidity planning, including cash forecasting, banking relationships, debt obligations, working capital, and investment performance. Recommend strategies to optimize liquidity and financial returns.

  • Advise leadership on capital allocation and major financial commitments. Develop business cases, return-on-investment analyses, sensitivity analyses, and financial projections for strategic initiatives and capital expenditures.

  • Assess the effectiveness of financial systems, reporting tools, accounting processes, and internal controls. Recommend and lead improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, transparency, and scalability.

  • Provide executive oversight and guidance for accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, reconciliations, and related financial controls.

  • Provide strategic oversight of reimbursement and payer-related financial matters, including Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer cost reporting, reimbursement analysis, regulatory reporting, and coordination with external consultants as appropriate.

  • Partner with operational leaders to improve financial literacy, establish meaningful financial and operational metrics, and strengthen accountability for budget and performance results.

  • Lead or coordinate annual financial audits and other external reviews. Serve as a primary financial liaison with independent auditors, actuaries, tax advisors, banks, consultants, and other external financial partners.

  • Ensure appropriate oversight of federal, state, and local financial and tax reporting requirements, including applicable payroll and information reporting obligations.

  • Evaluate financial policies, procedures, and internal controls and recommend updates to support compliance, safeguard assets, reduce risk, and promote sound financial governance.

  • Support executive and board reporting by preparing concise financial presentations, dashboards, forecasts, and recommendations that clearly communicate organizational financial position and performance.

  • Provide financial due diligence and integration support for acquisitions, affiliations, new service lines, restructuring, or other strategic transactions, as requested.

  • Coach and develop finance leaders and staff, clarify roles and accountabilities, and recommend organizational structure or staffing changes needed to strengthen the finance function.

  • Assist with turnaround, stabilization, cost-reduction, revenue enhancement, and performance-improvement initiatives when financial or operational results require intervention.

  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling sensitive financial, strategic, employee, and organizational information.

  • Perform other CFO-level financial consulting and strategic assignments as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Executive-level financial acumen with the ability to connect financial results to operational and strategic decisions.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, internal controls, audit coordination, and financial analysis.

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to executives, board members, operational leaders, and other stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, judgment, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify financial risk and develop practical, sustainable solutions.

  • Ability to influence and advise leaders while maintaining an objective, consultative approach.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize competing initiatives and meet established deadlines.

  • Commitment to collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, service excellence, and ethical financial practices.

  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems, spreadsheets, reporting platforms, and business intelligence tools.

Work Experience, Education, and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline preferred.

  • CPA, CMA, or other advanced financial credential preferred.

  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, including senior finance, controller, VP Finance, or CFO-level responsibilities. Healthcare finance experience is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to advise executive teams and boards, lead financial strategy, manage complex financial operations, and translate financial information into clear business recommendations.

Working Conditions:

  • Work from home and remote location with a stable internet connection, a quiet and dedicated workspace free of distractions, and access to necessary office equipment. The ability to have daily communication with team members, management, and clients through email, phone calls, video meetings and other collaborative tools. Primarily requires sitting at a desk for extended period. Proper lighting and ergonomics shole be maintained to reduce eye strain.

  • Primarily works in a professional office, remote, or client-site environment, depending on the consulting engagement.

  • May be subject to frequent interruptions, competing priorities, and time-sensitive financial deadlines.

  • Generally a sedentary position with regular use of a computer and other office technology.

  • Must be able to work the hours necessary to complete critical projects, financial reporting, audits, and executive deliverables within established time requirements.

  • Travel may be required based on the needs of the consulting engagement.

  • The position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of a senior financial consulting role, with or without reasonable accommodation. Requirements include prolonged sitting; frequent computer and keyboard use; reading and interpreting detailed financial information; effective verbal and written communication; sustained concentration; analytical thinking; memory; attention to detail; sound judgment; and decision-making. Occasional standing, walking, reaching, and lifting of typical office materials may be required.
