The Opportunity

We are actively exploring a vacant veterinary hospital space in the Greater Sacramento market and are looking for a veterinarian who wants to become both a Medical Director and an owner.

Rather than starting with a traditional ground-up build, this opportunity offers an existing veterinary space while giving you the ability to build the practice from the beginning. You will have the opportunity to help shape the hospital's medical approach, build your team, and create the culture and long-term vision for the practice.

Ownership and Partnership with VPP

Veterinary Practice Partners supports doctor-led hospitals. We do not rebrand your practice. Your hospital remains locally branded and reflective of your leadership.

As Medical Director, you may participate in a structured co-ownership model with meaningful equity and defined participation in performance and growth.

You lead the medicine. VPP provides operational, financial, HR, recruiting, and marketing support so you can focus on clinical excellence, building your team, and growing the practice.

VPP supports more than 200 veterinary hospitals across 35 states and partners with more than 330 doctor co-owners, including more than 200 associate veterinarians who have become co-owners through VPP.

Primary Medical Director Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

• Establish and uphold medical standards and protocols
• Lead effective case flow and clinical decision-making
• Ensure high-quality patient care and clear client communication
• Oversee medical record accuracy and charge capture
• Identify and implement clinical service enhancements

Team and Practice Leadership

• Help recruit, hire, and onboard veterinarians and support staff
• Build and develop a strong clinical team
• Mentor associate veterinarians and support continued clinical development
• Contribute to operational strategy and scheduling
• Foster a collaborative, team-first culture
• Help shape the hospital's identity and long-term vision

Financial Oversight

• Drive revenue growth while maintaining medical excellence
• Participate in annual planning and performance review
• Support marketing and community engagement initiatives

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent
• Active California veterinary license or ability to obtain
• 3+ years clinical experience preferred
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Interest in practice ownership and building a hospital for long-term growth
