Who You’ll Work With:

The Energy Transition team provides flexible capital solutions spanning both equity and debt primarily in the US but with investment opportunities globally. The team has invested over $3.5bn across equity investments in solar, storage, and wind assets and development platforms, as well as in private debt opportunities across the infrastructure sector, residential solar loans, Solar ABS and C-PACE/Efficiency. The team is currently looking for an Investment Vice President who will work closely with US energy transition investment team members, senior management and AB CarVal affiliates. The Vice President will play a key role in evaluating, executing and managing investments, with responsibility for leading financial analysis and valuation, driving due diligence and transaction execution, developing investment recommendations, and presenting to the investment committee. Ideal candidates will combine strong technical and financial modeling capabilities with sound investment judgment, commercial instincts and the ability to take ownership of workstreams and transactions in fast-paced, lean deal teams.

This position will report to a senior investment professional on the Energy Transition team and is located in New York, NY.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the development, review and interpretation of complex financial models to evaluate new investments, transaction structures and the value and performance of existing investments;
  • Lead the preparation of investment memoranda and other analyses, develop investment recommendations, and present findings to senior investment professionals and the investment committee;
  • Manage key aspects of deal execution and due diligence for acquisitions and financings across the deal lifecycle, from initial screening and underwriting through negotiation and closing;
  • Take an active role in the ongoing management, monitoring and monetization of portfolio investments, including assessing financial and operational performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and working with management teams and partners;
  • Originate and develop ideas for potential transactions and deal structures; lead industry and company research and evaluate new market segments and investment opportunities;
  • Serve as a day-to-day deal lead and key point of contact with sell-side and buy-side advisors, investment banks, lenders, consultants, management teams and other transaction counterparties on M&A and financing processes;
  • Lead or oversee the structuring and raising of debt and tax equity for acquisition targets, including lender models, ratings agency presentations, financing materials and lender due diligence;
  • Contribute to sourcing efforts by developing and maintaining relationships across the market, evaluating inbound opportunities and helping manage the M&A opportunity pipeline;
  • Evaluate opportunities across private equity, private debt and platform investments, applying corporate and project finance analysis to assess risk-adjusted returns and downside scenarios;
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior investment professionals, including reviewing analyses and models, delegating workstreams and supporting their development;
  • Contribute to a flexible, dynamic and team-oriented culture and, depending on market cycle, participate in evaluating and investing in traded debt and equity securities.

What We’re Looking For:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
  • 5 to 8 years of total relevant experience in financial services, investing, energy transition or a related field, with demonstrated progression in responsibility;
  • Demonstrated track record of strong performance in professional environments and increasing ownership of investment analysis and transaction execution;
  • Advanced understanding of applied finance, investment analysis, valuation and financial modeling, with the ability to review and challenge complex analyses;
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to timely, accurate and high-quality work, while maintaining perspective on key investment considerations;
    • Ability to synthesize complex financial, commercial and industry information, form an investment view and communicate recommendations clearly to senior stakeholders;
  • Strong investment judgment with a dynamic, creative and entrepreneurial approach;
    • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous or rapidly changing situations, prioritize multiple workstreams and drive processes forward with limited oversight;
    • Resourceful and commercially oriented approach to research, diligence, structuring and problem-solving;
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build credibility and manage relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders;
  • Intellectual agility and curiosity, with the judgment to identify the issues that matter most to an investment decision;
    • Ability and willingness to coach, review and develop junior team members while remaining hands-on in transaction execution;
    • A self-starter with demonstrated ownership, accountability and follow-through in a rigorous and collaborative investment environment.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, economics, business, or related field;
  • Significant experience in Private Equity, Private Debt/Credit or credit/special situation investing, M&A, Investment Banking, leveraged finance, Project Finance, or Corporate Finance from within a Strategic (Renewable DevCo, Battery Storage Company, IPP, etc.);
  • Demonstrated experience leading or playing a significant role in closing M&A, project finance or private lending transactions;
  • Advanced project finance and/or corporate financial modeling experience, including the ability to review and challenge models prepared by others;
  • Strong knowledge of the sustainable infrastructure, renewables, power and industrial sectors, including relevant market dynamics, transaction structures and key risks;
  • Demonstrated passion for investing and/or the energy transition, with evidence of sound commercial and investment judgment.
