Job Description:

TD Securities offers a wide range of capital markets products and services to corporate, government, and institutional clients who choose us for our innovation, execution, and experience.

With more than 6,900 professionals operating out of 32 cities across the globe, we help clients meet their needs today and prepare for tomorrow. Our services include underwriting and distributing new issues, providing trusted advice and industry-leading insight, extending access to global markets, and delivering integrated transaction banking solutions. In 2023, we acquired Cowen Inc., offering our clients access to a premier U.S. equities business and highly-diverse equity research franchise, while growing our strong, diversified investment bank.

We are growth-oriented, people-focused, and community-minded. As a team, we work to deliver value for our clients every day.

The Quantitative Engineering and Development (QED) team is a front-office quantitative technology and analytics group within TD Securities that supports the Global Equity Derivatives business. The team develops and enhances pricing models, risk analytics, trading tools, and automation solutions that enable efficient execution, risk management, and client service across a broad range of derivatives products. Working at the intersection of quantitative finance, software engineering, and capital markets, QED partners with trading, sales, structuring, and technology teams globally to deliver innovative solutions that advance the firm's analytical capabilities and support business growth.

Global Equity Derivatives (GED) is seeking a highly motivated Front Office Application Engineer to support, enhance, and develop technology solutions used by our trading, sales, and quantitative teams.

This role sits directly within the front office and focuses on building and maintaining business applications, workflow solutions, dashboards, and analytics tools that improve the productivity and effectiveness of front-office users. The successful candidate will work closely with traders, salespeople, quantitative analysts, and technology partners to understand business needs, improve existing applications, and deliver new functionality that streamlines day-to-day workflows.

The role offers a unique opportunity to combine software engineering, user-focused application development, and exposure to global financial markets. While prior knowledge of derivatives products and quantitative models is beneficial, deep quantitative expertise is not required. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn these concepts through hands-on experience while working alongside experienced traders, quants, and developers.

A strong focus on user experience, application design, and full-stack development is essential. The successful candidate should enjoy building intuitive tools that users rely on every day and be motivated by solving real business problems through technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance applications used daily by front-office trading, sales, and quantitative teams.

• Support business-critical applications by investigating issues, troubleshooting problems, and implementing timely solutions and improvements.

• Design and implement intuitive user interfaces that improve productivity, usability, and user experience.

• Develop new features and functionality across both frontend and backend systems.

• Work directly with traders, salespeople, and quantitative analysts to gather requirements and translate business needs into practical technology solutions.

• Build dashboards, reporting tools, and workflow applications that help users make better-informed decisions.

• Integrate applications with trading, market data, risk, and reference data platforms.

• Participate in testing, release management, monitoring, and operational support activities to ensure application reliability and performance.

• Partner with senior developers and quantitative teams to deliver scalable and maintainable software solutions.

• Contribute to software engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, documentation, and application maintainability.

• Continually improve existing applications by identifying opportunities to simplify workflows, reduce manual processes, and improve the overall user experience.

• Develop an understanding of financial markets, derivatives products, trading workflows, and quantitative concepts through direct interaction with business users and subject matter experts.

• Evaluate and leverage modern development tools, automation technologies, and AI-assisted solutions where appropriate.

Job Requirements

Technical Skills

• Strong programming skills in one or more of Golang, Python, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, or SQL.

• Experience developing modern web applications and user interfaces.

• Experience building both frontend and backend solutions.

• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, APIs, application architecture, and system design concepts.

• Familiarity with databases, messaging systems, and data-driven applications.

• Experience with source control systems, automated testing, and modern software development practices.

• Comfortable working in Linux environments with strong command-line skills, including shell scripting, CLI-based tooling, and editors such as VIM.

• Experience with frontend frameworks and modern web development technologies.

• Strong focus on user experience (UX) and building intuitive, user-friendly applications.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, workflow automation technologies, and modern productivity platforms is considered an asset.

Analytical and Financial Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Interest in quantitative problem solving and financial markets.

• Ability to learn and understand trading workflows, derivatives products, and risk concepts.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex business processes and datasets.

• Exposure to financial markets, capital markets products, or quantitative analysis is considered an asset.

• Knowledge of equity derivatives, structured products, or options analytics is preferred but not required.

Professional Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively with business users and technical teams.

• Strong customer-service mindset and commitment to supporting users.

• Ability to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective software solutions.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced front-office environment.

• Demonstrated problem-solving ability and willingness to take ownership of assigned initiatives.

• Collaborative team player with a positive, solution-oriented attitude.

• Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and business concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Finance, or a related discipline.

• Experience building internal business applications, workflow solutions, dashboards, or productivity tools.

• Experience with frontend development and user-centric application design.

• Experience working with APIs, databases, and enterprise application integrations.

• Exposure to financial services, capital markets, fintech, or electronic trading environments is considered an asset.
