You have spent years in lead. Nearly six in ten people who do this work report an orthopedic injury because of it — the spine most often — and the apron on your shoulders still weighs more than ten pounds. You have watched call bleed into Saturdays because outpatient volume keeps climbing while the roster does not. And if you have already taken a supervisor title somewhere, you may have discovered it arrived with all of the accountability and almost none of the authority.
This role was built the other way around.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client — a Forbes-recognized, not-for-profit health system whose flagship San Francisco hospital holds one of fewer than thirty Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certifications awarded nationwide by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association — is seeking an Imaging Supervisor to lead day-to-day operations across its cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology and interventional radiology labs.
This is a purpose-built campus. Its interventional services were designed as a single integrated platform: surgery, interventional imaging, cardiac catheterization and special procedures share one floor, wrapped around a shared PACU and prep-and-recovery operation. Departmental walls were deliberately dissolved so that cases move rather than queue. You will supervise the technologists and support staff across all three labs, set daily work priorities, partner with proceduralists and referring departments, own regulatory readiness, and drive throughput and cost improvement using Lean and other process-improvement methods.
You will lead a resourced service line inside a system that funds what it asks for — not a short roster held together by your own hands in the sterile field.

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

  • Authority, not just accountability — A 2025 cohort study of first-line healthcare managers found that what predicts a supervisor’s exit is not the size of the team but a deficit of control over the work and of support from above. This role carries genuine decision rights over priorities, workflow and process change — and a leadership structure built to back them.
  • Caseload that justifies the credential — Quaternary-level cardiovascular and interventional work — structural heart and transcatheter valve, complex arrhythmia and ablation, advanced interventional radiology — at a hospital recognized among the nation’s 100 best for coronary intervention. This is the complexity an ambulatory surgery center cannot take.
  • Collaboration designed into the floor plan — The integrated interventional platform puts cath, EP, IR, surgery and recovery under one roof and one PACU. Liaising with other patient care departments is not an extra duty here; it is how the building was engineered to work.
  • Room to fix what is broken — Identifying cost savings and implementing best practice using Lean methodology is written into the role, not tolerated around the edges of it. You will have the mandate, the benchmarking data and the capital-planning voice to act on what you find.
  • Your weekends back — Monday through Friday, day shift, eight-hour shifts, forty hours a week. Weekend coverage is as needed — not a standing expectation, not a rotating burden built into the schedule.
  • An employer that spends on its people — The system covers 95% of employee medical plan costs — well above the national average — and invested nearly $9 billion in pay, retirement and benefits in 2025. In its most recent workforce survey, 88% of employees participated and 85% recommended it as a great place to work.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Direct daily operations across the cath, EP and IR labs — setting work priorities, balancing assignments against skill mix, and keeping cases starting on time and rooms turning over cleanly.
  • Coach and develop the technologist team, resolving technical and operational problems at the point they occur rather than escalating them upward.
  • Own regulatory and accreditation readiness — The Joint Commission, state public health and CMS — so the labs are inspection-ready as a standing condition, not a fire drill.
  • Partner with surgery, imaging, PACU, scheduling and nursing leadership to keep the integrated interventional platform moving as one service rather than three.
  • Identify and implement cost savings and best practice using Lean or comparable process-improvement methods, and measure the result.
  • Standardize workflows and procedures across three distinct lab environments, reducing variation and the risk that variation creates.
  • Advise on equipment, supply and capital decisions — including the radiation-protection and shielding investments that determine whether this is a career you can sustain for twenty more years.

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • ARRT (Radiography) certification, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • BLS — Basic Life Support, Healthcare Provider.
  • Five years of recent, relevant experience.

Preferred

  • Hands-on experience as a technologist in interventional radiology, electrophysiology or the cardiac cath lab.
  • Prior supervisory, charge or lead responsibility in a procedural or imaging environment.
  • Working knowledge of TJC, Medi-Cal and Medicare requirements as they apply to procedural areas.
  • Demonstrated process improvement work — Lean, Six Sigma or equivalent — with outcomes you can describe.
  • Comfort with enterprise EHR and imaging systems, and with the reporting side of departmental leadership.
