We offer an attractive compensation package (please refer to the Terms and Conditions section of this vacancy announcement).
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Pacific region comprises 14 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) covered by the World Food Programme (WFP) Pacific Multi-Country Office, which face some of the highest levels of disaster risk globally due to recurrent natural hazards and the increasing impact of climate change. These contextual factors shape the operating environment for emergency preparedness and response, particularly in relation to connectivity and communications.
WFP’s engagement in the Pacific focuses on strengthening national and regional capacities for emergency preparedness and response (EPR), including in logistics, emergency telecommunications, disaster risk management, adaptive social protection, anticipatory action and food security, with an emphasis on supporting government-led systems to better support the most at-risk populations.
As WFP scales up its operations across the Pacific region under the US MACRO Grant award, including the expansion of its current Multi-Country Office in Suva, Fiji, and the growth of its country presence, the Information Technology function plays a critical role in ensuring that staff are supported by reliable, secure, and effective ICT services. This expansion requires increased operational support for ICT infrastructure, connectivity, end-user services, equipment management, and the implementation of corporate technology standards to enable efficient programme delivery and emergency response operations.
Under the supervision of the IT Operations Associate and in close collaboration with functional units across the Pacific Multi-Country Office, the IT Operations Assistant will support the implementation and day-to-day delivery of ICT services associated with WFP's expanding presence in the Pacific. The incumbent will provide technical support to users, assist with the deployment and maintenance of ICT infrastructure and equipment, support office establishment and expansion activities, and contribute to ensuring reliable connectivity and service availability across multiple locations. The role will also support ICT asset management, user training, troubleshooting, and the implementation of corporate ICT initiatives and standards, helping to strengthen WFP's operational readiness and ability to effectively deliver its mandate across the Pacific.
