Overview
Expleo is seeking a Work Package Manager to take full accountability for the delivery of defined work packages within a complex client-based engineering programme.
The role operates within an engineering environment, using technical understanding to support planning, coordination, and delivery management across multidisciplinary teams.
This position is delivery-focused, ensuring work packages are executed to meet scope, schedule, and performance objectives.
Note: This role does not provide technical authority, design ownership, or engineering assurance. Technical experience is applied solely to enable effective delivery management.
This role will only be 2 days a week (15 hours) and will require 1 day a week onsite attendance in Portsmouth.
Responsibilities
- Own and deliver assigned work packages, accountable for scope, schedule, and delivery outcomes
- Develop and maintain delivery plans, schedules, and work breakdown structures (WBS)
- Coordinate activities across multidisciplinary teams (hardware, software, data)
- Act as the primary delivery interface between engineering teams and programme stakeholders
- Drive progress, ensuring teams meet milestones and delivery commitments
- Identify and manage risks, issues, dependencies, and assumptions (RAID)
- Provide clear and structured reporting on delivery status, KPIs, and performance
- Ensure adherence to programme governance and delivery controls
- Facilitate communication and alignment across technical teams and programme leadership
- Apply technical awareness to:
- Support planning and sequencing of engineering work
- Identify dependencies and integration risks
- Assess feasibility of delivery plans
Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent experience) in:
- Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or similar), or Project / Programme Management
Desirable:
- PRINCE2, APM, or PMP
- Awareness of systems engineering principles (e.g. INCOSE)
Essential skills
- Proven ability to own and deliver work packages or projects
- Strong planning and organisational skills (WBS, scheduling, dependency management)
- Effective risk and issue management (RAID)
- Ability to coordinate and influence cross-functional teams
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Good working understanding of systems engineering and integration environments
- Ability to apply technical awareness to support delivery planning and coordination
- Comfortable operating within structured governance frameworks
Desired skills
- Demonstrable experience as a Work Package Manager, Project Manager, or Delivery Manager
- Track record of delivering defined scope to schedule within engineering or technical programmes
- Exposure to software development or sandbox/test environments
- Familiarity with data processing or analysis environments
- Knowledge of Agile or hybrid delivery approaches
Experience
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams
- Experience managing delivery within structured governance and reporting environments
- Experience handling integration dependencies and delivery complexity
- Experience with hardware integration environments (e.g. rigs, labs, test facilities)
- Experience in complex or regulated engineering sectors (defence, marine, aerospace)
What do I need before I apply
- Be prepared and able to be onsite in Portsmouth 1 day per week
- Eligible for UK SC Clearance (preference to already hold SC Clearance)
