How you’ll make an impact
Looking for an opportunity to experience the practice of law in a collaborative, business-focused environment?
Work alongside experienced in-house counsel on a wide range of legal matters that support Canadian agriculture and food businesses. You'll gain exposure to areas such as commercial lending, contracts, corporate and governance matters, employment law, litigation, procurement, intellectual property and privacy.
As part of a collaborative legal team, you'll work alongside lawyers and business professionals on legal matters and strategic initiatives that support FCC's operations and priorities. You'll develop practical legal skills while gaining valuable insight into the role an in-house legal team plays in supporting business decisions, managing risk and advancing organizational goals.
Whether your interests are in corporate law, commercial transactions, employment law, litigation or governance, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work and broaden your understanding of legal practice in an in-house setting.

What you'll do
Conduct legal research and analysis on a broad range of legal issues relevant to FCC's business and operations
Prepare legal memoranda, briefing notes, summaries, presentations and other materials for internal stakeholders
Support in-house counsel on commercial lending and financing matters, corporate transactions, governance initiatives, employment matters and litigation files
Assist with drafting, reviewing and revising legal agreements, policies, procedures and other business documents
Support the management of litigation and employment-related matters, including legal research, document review and fact gathering
Contribute to the development and review of lending documentation, governance materials, policies and internal guidance
Participate in strategic projects, including new products, business initiatives, policy development and process improvement efforts
Attend meetings with lawyers, business teams and external counsel to gain exposure to legal and business decision-making
Support Corporate Secretary activities and governance processes
Collaborate with legal professionals across multiple practice areas and business functions
What you’ll bring to the team
Required qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent law degree program at an accredited law school (preference may be given to second- and third-year law students)
Strong interest in developing a broad understanding of legal practice in an in-house environment
Excellent legal research, analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely
Sound judgment and the ability to develop practical recommendations
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Preferred qualifications:
Coursework or experience related to corporate law, commercial law, employment law, civil litigation, contract law, banking and finance, or governance
Experience conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda through academic, co-op, volunteer or professional experiences
Knowledge of financial services, commercial lending, governance, public-sector organizations or regulated industries
Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
