Our client is seeking a strategic, experienced Director of HR & Training to lead and shape the resort's people function at an executive level. Reporting directly to the Resort Manager/General Manager and sitting on the senior leadership team, you'll set the HR and training strategy, build a high-performance culture, and ensure full compliance with Fiji's employment legislation — while overseeing a team responsible for day-to-day HR operations, payroll administration, and workforce development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the Resort Manager and executive team on all HR, workforce planning, and organizational development matters.
- Own compliance with Fiji's employment legislation, driving company policy design and governance across the property.
- Lead the annual manning budget, salary and benefits structure, and long-term workforce planning in partnership with Finance.
- Direct the full employee lifecycle strategy — recruitment, onboarding, transfers, promotions, performance management, and separations — and oversee the HR team executing it.
- Champion innovative, employer-brand-driven recruitment strategies to secure top talent in a competitive hospitality market.
- Design and oversee a property-wide Learning & Development framework, including induction training, departmental upskilling, leadership development, and career pathing.
- Own succession planning across all departments, building a pipeline of future department heads and leaders.
- Drive a company-wide employee engagement and recognition strategy, with quarterly programs and measurable engagement outcomes.
- Set policy and provide senior oversight for employee relations, disciplinary matters, workplace investigations, and grievances, ensuring fair and legally sound resolution.
- Hold ultimate accountability for the integrity of employee records in the PayGlobal HR Module and attendance data in FingerTec, with oversight delegated to HR administration staff.
- Ensure payroll governance — accuracy, deadlines, and variance resolution — in close partnership with Head Office Payroll and Finance.
- Own leave policy governance and ensure HODs are equipped with accurate monthly leave reporting to manage their teams effectively.
- Safeguard the confidentiality, security, and integrity of all employee and payroll information as the property's senior data steward for HR matters.
- Represent HR & Training in reporting and executive committee meetings, presenting workforce KPIs and strategic initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; postgraduate qualification or HR certification (e.g., SHRM, CIPD) preferred.
- 8+ years progressive HR experience, including at least 3–5 years in a senior/leadership HR role, ideally in luxury hospitality or resort operations.
- Proven experience designing and leading L&D/training frameworks, not just administering them.
- Strong working knowledge of Fiji's employment legislation (or demonstrated ability to master a foreign jurisdiction's labor law quickly).
- Track record of managing HR budgets, workforce planning, and multi-department stakeholder relationships.
- Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (PayGlobal or comparable) and time & attendance systems (FingerTec or comparable).
- Executive-level communication and presentation skills, comfortable reporting to senior leadership and ownership.
- Demonstrated success building succession pipelines and leadership development programs.
