Marathon Electric is looking for a Field Service Technician who enjoys troubleshooting, solving problems, working directly with customers, and getting out from behind a desk.
This is a highly independent, hands-on position supporting customers in the field with industrial alternators, generators, and related electrical and mechanical systems. You'll diagnose problems, make repairs, provide technical guidance, and partner with our engineering and internal teams to solve more complex equipment issues.
This position involves extensive travel—up to 100%—and is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the road, working in different environments, and tackling a new technical challenge from one customer site to the next.

What You'll Do
As a Field Service Technician, you'll be the technical expert our customers rely on in the field.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues involving industrial alternators and power generation components
- Troubleshoot AC/DC electrical systems, controls, rotating equipment, and associated components
- Use multimeters, diagnostic tools, and testing equipment to identify equipment issues
- Provide on-site technical support and training to customers
- Ensure equipment and repairs meet engineering specifications and customer requirements
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and specifications
- Work with bearings, alignment, and other rotating assemblies
- Partner with engineering and internal technical teams to resolve complex technical issues
- Clearly communicate findings and recommended solutions to customers
- Prepare detailed service reports documenting work performed, findings, and results
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced technician who combines strong technical skills with the ability to work independently and professionally represent Marathon Electric at customer locations.
- 2–5 years of field service or related industrial maintenance experience
- Experience with alternators, generators, motors, rotating equipment, or similar industrial equipment
- Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and controls
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Experience using multimeters and other diagnostic and testing equipment
- Mechanical aptitude, including experience with bearings, alignment, and rotating assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage your time
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively—up to 100%
An Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
Even Better If You Have
- Experience with industrial alternators or synchronous generators
- Knowledge of PLC systems and control panels
- OSHA or other applicable safety certifications
- Previous customer-facing field service experience
What the Job Looks Like
This position is based from Wausau, Wisconsin, with frequent travel to customer locations.
You'll work in a variety of environments, including industrial facilities and outdoor locations. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely work around electrical equipment, rotating machinery, and changing environmental conditions.
With extensive travel being an important part of this position, travel time is company paid and the position is eligible for overtime.
