Senior Real Estate Accountant

JOB SUMMARY:

Perform monthly review of the financial reporting packages received from hotel management companies for Choice’s portfolio of owned operating hotels and joint ventures, including analyzing the detailed income statements, balance sheets and account reconciliations for financial performance and trends, and preparing the quarterly waterfall calculations under the equity method of accounting. Responsible for performing daily activities for real estate and development projects including review of draw packages for bank or capital call funding, tracking development costs for Choice’s portfolio of hotels under development. Work as a liaison between Choice team members and the management companies to ensure hotel properties are in conformity with US GAAP and USALI. Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries to consolidate the hotel operations and development and record equity earnings for joint ventures into Choice’s general ledger. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for joint ventures. This position will also participate in the periodic Financial Reporting process, including the preparation of Choice’s quarterly and annual SEC filings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare monthly review and analysis of financial reporting package of owned hotels and consolidate into corporate financial statements.

• Develop relationships and collaborate with internal stakeholders (including the Accounting, Billing, Financial Systems, Real Estate Investment and Asset Management, Brands, Tax, Treasury, and Financial Planning and Analysis teams) and coordinate with third-party hotel management companies to prepare the monthly consolidation and facilitate the proper recording of accounting transactions.

• Prepare quarterly calculation of joint venture waterfall calculations.

• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for joint ventures.

• Prepare and review loan reserve calculations in accordance with ASC 326 (Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) standard).

• Provide supporting documentation to the Accounting and Financial Reporting teams in order to achieve the month-end and quarter-end accounting close deadlines.

• Assist in the execution of the quarterly reviews and annual audits of owned hotel properties and managed joint venture entities by independent accounting firms.

• Assist in the drafting of the footnote support for the quarterly and annual reports on Form 10-Q’s and 10-K’s.

• Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and internal policies, including the execution of internal controls and the participation in testing by internal and external audit staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Employment Experience

• Position requires a mix of corporate and public accounting experience of at least 2+ years’ experience with a public company and public accounting firm, with a total of 4+ years’ experience.

• Experience in Real Estate Construction and Property accounting preferred.

Technical Skills

• Experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP/EPM and/or other general ledger (G/L)/ERP financial systems preferred.

Additional Skills & Competencies

• Individual must have excellent interpersonal skills.

• Individual must be a team player.

• Analytical skills and knowledge of US GAAP.  Familiarity with USALI is a plus.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

• CPA preferred, with an active License.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $86,886 - $102,219.
