We are currently looking for an Electrical Journeyperson to be an integral part of our Construction Projects Division. This is a role that will be interesting and dynamic as tasks and responsibilities tend to adapt week to week. Black and McDonald are part of the IBEW Local 424 Electrical Union. We offer top wages in the industry.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Install electrical wiring, conduits, cable trays, and raceways
- Install lighting systems, switches, receptacles, and circuit breakers
- Install distribution equipment: Panels, transformers and switch gear
- Installation of underground service equipment and “ground” grid for utility transformers
- Install fire alarm and building management systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings
- Perform routine inspections of electrical systems
- Test electrical components and equipment to ensure proper operation
- Replace worn or damaged wiring and components
- Diagnose electrical problems using testing equipment
- Repair faulty circuits, motors, lighting systems, and controls
- Ensure repairs comply with electrical codes and safety standards
- Estimate materials, labor, and project timelines
- Order and manage electrical materials and equipment

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Valid Electrical Journeyperson Certification or eligibility for certification in the applicable province
- Additional industry-related training, technical courses, or certifications relevant to sheet metal fabrication and installation are considered an asset
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in electrical, installation, and maintenance, preferably within commercial or institutional environments
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience performing quality inspections and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Strong mechanical aptitude and technical ability
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, conduit benders (hand and electrical/mechanical), and measuring instruments
- Ability to accurately measure
- Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and electrical schematics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently under deadlines
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all health and safety regulations
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, climbing, kneeling, and working at heights in various weather and job-site conditions
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation will be required
- Ability to obtain and maintain required site-specific security clearances and safety certifications
