Intern, Safety and Security

Job Description

To support the Safety and Security team in strengthening safety governance, improving security operations, and enhancing compliance through structured reviews, documentation, and data-driven insights.

The intern will support the team in the following areas:

1. Safety Management Support

• Assist in tracking corrective and preventive actions and monitoring closure status (Interlex)

2. Security Operations & Access Control Management

• Assist in the administration and monitoring of access control systems, including card access provisioning, access rights reviews, and deactivation processes.
• Support audits of access permissions to ensure compliance with approved access levels and segregation requirements.
• Assist in reviewing access control incidents and identifying gaps in controls or processes.
• Support documentation of access control workflows and system configurations.

3. Policy, Communication & Engagement

• Assist in drafting safety and security communications, advisories, and notices.
• Support safety campaigns and engagement activities (e.g. Safety Dirty Dozen, road safety awareness).
• Help standardise safety and security documentation and notice boards.

4. Project-Based Assignment

• Undertake a focused improvement project (e.g. access control process review, lone worker monitoring assessment, CCTV coverage review) with clear findings and recommendations.
• Leverage AI knowledge to explore and implement AI-related projects for safety and security enhancements.

Key Deliverables:

• Access control audit summaries and improvement recommendations.
• Incident and inspection summaries with identified corrective actions.
• Safety and security reports or dashboards.
• Draft communications and campaign materials.
• Final project report and presentation.
• AI project implementation proposal and findings.

Learning Outcomes & Objectives

By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to:

• Apply safety and security principles in a real-world logistics and operations environment.
• Understand and participate in safety incident and near-miss investigations, including evidence gathering and root cause analysis.
• Gain hands-on exposure to access control systems, including access provisioning, audits, and compliance monitoring.
• Develop skills in reviewing and updating Risk Assessments (RA), Safe Work Procedures (SWP), and SOPs.
• Analyse safety and security data to identify trends and support management decision-making.
• Understand regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to workplace safety and security.
• Communicate safety and security requirements clearly through reports, briefings, and written advisories.
• Explore and implement AI-related projects for safety and security enhancements.

Prerequisites & Skills Required

• Basic understanding or strong interest in workplace safety, security, or risk management.
• Able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally, with attention to factual and accurate reporting.
• Comfortable working with basic IT systems (e.g. spreadsheets, documents) and willing to learn security or access control systems.
• Demonstrates a responsible attitude, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality.
• Strong observation and analytical skills to identify safety and security risks.
• Ability to document findings clearly and factually, especially for reports and investigations.
• Basic data handling skills, including organising information using spreadsheets or simple tracking tools.
• Good communication skills to engage stakeholders and support safety briefings or site discussions.
• Attention to detail and discipline in following procedures, controls, and confidentiality requirements.

Education

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computing and Information System / Business and Infocomm Technology / Information and Communications Technology, or a related discipline.

Additional Information / Requirements

• Student Status: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at a recognized Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) in Singapore.
• Credit-Bearing & Graduation Requirement: The internship must be a compulsory, credit-bearing component of your academic program required for graduation.
• Duration & Availability: Able to commit to a full-time internship for a minimum period of 16 consecutive weeks.
