Job Title: Carpenter  

Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor 

Level of Work: I

Position Summary: 

Works from plans, sketches, verbal, or written instructions, cutting lumber to size using hand and power tools. Assembles crates, boxes, skids, etc. Assists in loading and blocking shipments to assure transport security and conform to transport requirements and regulations. Reports directly to the General Foreman, area Production Lead, or his/her designate.

Level I: Quality – Complete and accurate work performed efficiently

• Constructs crates, boxes, skids, etc. for the shipment of company products or other miscellaneous items, in accordance with packaging and shipping requirements and regulations.
• Performs routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Consistently meets customer’s quality requirements and expectations.

Follow instructions – oral and/or written

• Works from plans, sketches, verbal, or written instructions
• Performs other duties as assigned by General Foreman, area Production Lead, or his/her designate.

Safety & housekeeping

• Observes safe work procedures and maintains good housekeeping standards.
• Must wear appropriate protective gear and clothing as necessary.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education and Training:

• High school, BOCES

Experience:

• One to two years on the job experience required to learn procedures and attain proficiency
• Experience in rough carpentry.
• Trade school training in carpentry or similar beneficial.

Other:

• Proficiency Test applicable.
• Duties may require the use of material handling equipment.

• Physical demands: May be required to move items up to 60 pounds for distances of up to 10 feet. May be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend.
• Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to read, write, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, present information to others and work under pressure 
• Work Environment: May be exposed to fumes or dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts and moderate to loud noise levels. This job primarily operates in a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is also exposed to high level of manufacturing and equipment noise Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes. Exposure to hazardous materials, fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts with vibration.
