Overview
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, review, coordination, and construction supervision of major high-rise residential, commercial, hospitality, mixed-use, and large-scale building developments in Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading mechanical engineering design and technical delivery activities related to HVAC, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, LPG, district cooling interfaces, and other building services systems. The role requires extensive experience in complex building projects, multidisciplinary coordination, sustainable design practices, and client-facing project delivery. The candidate will play a key role from concept design through construction, commissioning, and project handover.
Your role
- Lead the design and review of mechanical building services systems for high-rise and mixed-use developments.
- Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations, technical reports, equipment schedules, specifications, and design drawings.
- Perform cooling load calculations, ventilation calculations, hydraulic calculations, pressure loss calculations, and system sizing.
- Develop energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical design solutions that meet project performance requirements.
- Ensure mechanical systems are designed in accordance with project specifications, operational requirements, and life-cycle cost objectives.
- Coordinate closely with Architectural, Structural, Electrical, Public Health, Fire & Life Safety, and Sustainability teams.
- Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and clash detection exercises.
- Ensure mechanical services are fully integrated within the overall building design and BIM environment.
- Review consultant and contractor design submissions for technical compliance and constructability.
- Participate in design workshops and value engineering exercises.
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure installation quality and compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Monitor contractor performance related to mechanical installation works.
- Assist in resolving construction-related technical issues and recommend practical engineering solutions.
- Support testing, balancing, commissioning, and system performance validation activities.
- Integrate sustainable design solutions and energy-efficient technologies into building systems.
- Contribute to project sustainability targets and green building initiatives.
- Perform technical reviews and quality checks on design submissions and project deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with project quality management procedures and engineering best practices.
- Prepare technical reports, design calculations, engineering studies, and project documentation.
- Maintain comprehensive project records and design documentation.
- Provide regular updates regarding design progress, technical challenges, and project risks.
- Support authority submissions, approvals, and compliance documentation.
About you
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or Sustainable Design is preferred.
- Professional Engineering Registration or Chartership is preferred.
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or equivalent sustainability certification is desirable
- 15 to 20 years of professional experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience on major building and high-rise development projects.
- Experience in consultant, PMC, or multidisciplinary engineering consultancy environments.
- Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC countries is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience throughout design, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
- Extensive knowledge of building services engineering and mechanical systems design.
- Strong understanding of high-rise building engineering challenges and vertical transportation interfaces.
- Ability to perform technical reviews and engineering assessments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
