The Role
Heartwood Community School is seeking a knowledgeable, service-oriented, and proactive Information Technology (IT) Specialist to support the technology needs of Heartwood Community School. Reporting to the School Operations Manager, this position plays a vital role in ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient technology systems that support teaching, learning, and daily school operations. Responsibilities include providing technical support to staff and students, troubleshooting hardware, software, network, and classroom technology issues, managing school-issued devices and technology inventory, maintaining technology systems to maximize instructional continuity, and supporting the school's use of data through analysis, reporting, dashboards, and visualizations that help leaders and teams monitor progress and make informed decisions. The ideal candidate is an effective problem-solver, communicates clearly with a customer-service mindset, thrives in a fast-paced school environment, and is committed to leveraging technology to enhance the educational experience for students and staff.
Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide timely technical support to staff and students by troubleshooting hardware, software, and technology-related issues.
- Respond to and resolve Help Desk requests while maintaining clear communication and excellent customer service.
- Assist staff with classroom technology to minimize disruptions to teaching and learning.
- Create user-friendly technology guides and provide training on school technology systems and best practices.
- Maintain the integrity of schoolwide data systems while developing reports, dashboards, and presentations that provide school leaders with timely, accurate, and meaningful information to monitor progress, communicate results, and support data-informed decision-making across the organization.
Technology Systems & Infrastructure
- Maintain and support the school's technology infrastructure, including networks, printers, interactive displays, classroom audio/visual equipment, and other instructional technology.
- Manage user accounts, passwords, permissions, and access to school technology platforms.
- Perform routine maintenance, software updates, and system monitoring to ensure reliable technology operations.
- Coordinate with technology vendors and service providers for repairs, upgrades, and specialized support.
Data Systems, Analysis, & Reporting
- Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of schoolwide data systems.
- Analyze and synthesize data, as needed, to help leadership identify trends, monitor progress, and support data-informed decision-making.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations that provide leaders and teams with clear, timely, and actionable information.
- Collaborate with school leadership to address emerging data and reporting needs while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and data security.
Device & Asset Management
- Configure, deploy, repair, and maintain school-issued devices for staff and students.
- Maintain accurate technology inventory records, including asset tags, warranties, repairs, and replacement schedules.
- Oversee device check-in/check-out procedures and ensure technology equipment is properly documented.
- Evaluate damaged devices and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
Cybersecurity
- Implement best practices to protect school devices, networks, and student data.
- Ensure compliance with technology policies, software licensing, and data privacy requirements.
- Collaborate with school leadership to plan and implement technology initiatives that support the school's strategic goals.

Education and Experience
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of Windows, ChromeOS, macOS, Google Workspace for Education, and Microsoft 365.
- Understanding of basic networking concepts, Wi-Fi infrastructure, cybersecurity, and device management.
- Experience providing technical support in a school or customer-service environment preferred.
- Familiarity with student information systems and educational technology platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, Clever, Classlink) preferred.
Compensation
- This is a part-time, approximately 30 hours per week, salaried, 12-month position aligned with the academic calendar, with an annual salary of $65,000.
