The Lead Software Engineer / Technical Lead will serve as a key technical leader within Patient Safety IT, responsible for architecting, delivering, and operating technology solutions that enable critical Pharmacovigilance capabilities including signal detection, safety case processing, aggregate reporting, and risk management across existing and emerging Patient Safety products and platforms. This role combines deep engineering expertise, business alignment, and Engineering & Operations ownership, with accountability for translating complex Patient Safety requirements into scalable, secure, compliant, and high-performing digital solutions.
The incumbent will provide technical leadership across the full solution lifecycle — design, build, deployment, operations, and continuous improvement — while partnering closely with Product Managers, Architects, Validation, Quality, and global business stakeholders. The role requires strong technical judgment, the ability to influence architecture and delivery decisions across teams, and a commitment to driving measurable improvements in patient safety outcomes, operational efficiency, and platform reliability in a highly regulated life sciences environment.

## Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Patient Safety Product Managers, business stakeholders, and PV subject matter experts to translate complex business requirements into scalable digital capabilities that improve the timeliness, quality, and effectiveness of key pharmacovigilance processes
- Define and drive the technical direction, architecture standards, and engineering patterns for Patient Safety platforms within scope.
- Lead technical design decisions and trade-off discussions across applications, integrations, workflows, and cloud-native services to ensure scalability, maintainability, security, and compliance.
- Establish and promote reusable design patterns, shared services, and engineering guardrails to improve consistency and accelerate delivery across the portfolio.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned platforms, providing guidance during solution design, delivery planning, and operational issue resolution.
- Design, develop and deliver scalable, secure, cloud‑based solutions using Java, Spring Boot, ReactJS, PostgreSQL and associated full‑stack frameworks
- Build microservices, REST APIs, UI components, integrations, and reusable libraries.
- Implement business workflows leveraging technologies such as Camunda BPM or equivalent while aligned with the existing Risk Minimization platforms
- Drive high‑quality coding practices, SDLC documentation, CICD pipelines, and deployment automation. Manage security vulnerabilities and implement secure coding best practices
- Ensure compliance with SDLC, validation, audit requirements, and data integrity standards expected in highly regulated environment
- Conduct root-cause analysis, troubleshoot complex issues, and support L2/L3 operation teams as needed
- Provide technical guidance to junior developers, ensuring best practices and engineering discipline
- Define, monitor, and improve service health, reliability, performance, availability, and operational readiness, including metrics, alerts, support processes, and runbook maturity
- Ensure PV systems and processes adhere to GxP, validation, and audit requirements
- Identify opportunities to leverage advanced analytics, Agentic AI, automation, and emerging technologies
- Lead technical discussions, design reviews, cross-team alignment and mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of excellence; establish a culture of proactive monitoring and risk mitigation rather than reactive support
## Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of hands-on full stack experience in Engineering & Operations
- Strong expertise in:
- Backend: Java, Spring Boot, REST API development
- Frontend: ReactJS, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS
- Database: PostgreSQL or MySQL or Oracle; familiarity with NoSQL preferred
- Cloud: AWS (Lambda, RDS, API Gateway, ECS, S3, IAM, EC2, Fargate, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB etc.)
- CI/CD: Jenkins or GitHub Action or Bitbucket pipelines etc.
- BPM platforms: Camunda or Bonitasoft or PEGA or similar platform experience
- PV Safety Database: ArisG LSMV/Veeva Vault Safety
- Analytics & AI knowledge is an added advantage
- Deep hands-on expertise across AWS infrastructure services: EC2, VPC, ECS/EKS (Fargate), Lambda, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, ALB, Route 53, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway, IAM, KMS, and Secrets Manager
- Proven ability to architect and deploy production-grade, highly available solutions on AWS, following the Well-Architected Framework
- Strong experience designing end-to-end CI/CD pipelines using AWS-native tools (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy) and/or Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Bitbucket Pipelines
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK
- Experience with containerized deployments using Docker, Amazon ECR, ECS/EKS, including blue/green and canary release strategies
- Familiarity with AWS monitoring & security: CloudWatch, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, and Security Hub
- Practical experience using AI‑assisted engineering tools (e.g., code copilots) to accelerate development, test generation, refactoring, and documentation, with a disciplined approach to code quality and security.
- Prompting and evaluating LLM outputs for engineering tasks (e.g., creating unit tests, converting requirements to acceptance criteria, generating API stubs) and grounding outputs against source specs.
- Exposure to Risk Evaluation & Mitigation Strategy (REMS) or pharmacovigilance or patient safety, or regulated life‑sciences environment is an advantage.
- Foundational understanding of GxP processes, compliance and validation processes is preferred.
- Ability to work in global Agile teams with distributed stakeholders, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Technical Certifications in AWS, Agile or BPM tools are advantageous
- Possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related technical field
- Experience in pharmacovigilance, patient safety, REMS, or broader regulated life sciences platforms is strongly preferred. Familiarity with PV processes such as signal management, case processing, risk management, and safety reporting will be a significant advantage
