Job Summary:
The Financial Controller provides strategic and operational support to the Head of Finance, Trapeze ANZ, and is responsible for the effective leadership of the Finance team. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, compliant payroll and statutory reporting processes, effective cash management, and continuous improvement across finance operations.This role works closely with finance leaders, business unit stakeholders, auditors and internal teams to deliver reliable financial information, maintain compliance with internal policies and legislative requirements, and support decision-making across the business.

About the Role
As Financial Controller, you will provide strategic and operational support to the Head of Finance, Trapeze Group ANZ, and be responsible for the effective leadership of small, but effective Finance team. You will ensures accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, compliant payroll and statutory reporting processes, effective cash management, and continuous improvement across finance operations.
This role works closely with other finance leaders, business unit stakeholders, auditors and internal teams to deliver reliable financial information, maintain compliance with internal policies and legislative requirements, and support decision-making across the business.
How you’ll make an impact:
Financial Results & Reporting Adherence:
- Oversee all finance functions for Trapeze Group ANZ, and when required for other Business Units.
- Ensure finance processes are delivered accurately on time and in accordance with internal policies and controls.
- Prepare business unit reporting requirements, both monthly and quarterly, including but not limited to: Quarterly tax packs, financial analysis, Balance sheet and income statement analytics, EBITA variance analysis of business unit financial results against budget, Debtors and WIP schedules, Attrition reporting
- Review and sign off balance sheet reconciliations in BlackLine.
- Ensure all reconciliations are complete and variations clearly followed up and accounted for.
- Process monthly intercompany charges, payments and reconciliations.
- Review fixed assets and write-offs in accordance with policy.
- Manage cash flow, forecasts and cash distributions in accordance with company policies.
- Act as a bank signing authority in Australia.
Compliance & Audit Management:
- Ensure all finance processes align with company and statutory requirements and are reviewed on an annual basis
- Oversee payroll processes, including fortnightly payroll, ad hoc payments and terminations in accordance with employee timesheets and legislative requirements.
- Act as the Payroll Partner for Trapeze Group ANZ and, when required, other Business Units.
- Manage the review and lodgement of payroll tax, workers compensation, superannuation payments, BAS, FBT returns and any other statutory requirement as required.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures and relevant legislative requirements.
- Maintain effective controls and documentation to support audit readiness and statutory compliance.
- Manage audit processes and liaise with internal and external auditors.
- Maintain and improve internal controls across finance processes.
- Ensure financial records, reconciliations and reporting outputs are complete, accurate and appropriately supported.
- Identify and escalate financial risks, process gaps or compliance issues as required.
- Ensure policies and procedures are updated on an annual basis, in accordance with statutory and internal requirements.
- Support the Head of Finance for all audits, both internal and external, as required.
Process Improvement & Automation:
- Support the ongoing improvement and standardisation of finance processes across the accounting area.
Overall Business Support:
- Partner with team members and business stakeholders to resolve operational finance issues.
- Support the Head of Finance with financial insights, reporting accuracy and decision-support information.
People First Leadership:
- Lead, coach and develop direct reports within the Finance Team
- Allocate work, set priorities, establish scorecard goals and support performance outcomes for direct reports.
- Evaluate team capacity and resourcing to ensure appropriate coverage across key finance processes.
- Train and support Finance Team members in relevant processes, procedures and system requirements.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, accuracy and continuous improvement.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- CPA qualification or equivalent degree
- Proven experience managing and developing finance teams.
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles, practices and procedures.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, statutory reporting and compliance obligations.
- Demonstrated experience across all finance functions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial reporting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and stakeholder expectations.
- Proficiency with financial systems and tools, including NetSuite, BlackLine and Microsoft Excel.
- AI exposure and usage of same to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within finance functions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
- A continuous improvement mindset and commitment to improving finance processes and outcomes.
