About the role:
The Senior Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for leading the organization’s internal and external financial reporting processes and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial information to executive management, auditors, investors, and other stakeholders. The role oversees the month-end close, preparation of financial statements, audit coordination, reconciliation governance, treasury reporting support, expense and lease accounting, and financial systems oversight. The position also plays a key role in finance transformation, acquisition integration, and continuous process improvement while leading and developing a team of finance professionals.
Financial Close and Management Reporting
- Lead and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, including the review and approval of journal entries and key accounting adjustments.
- Perform and oversee variance analysis, investigate significant movements, and provide clear commentary and insights to management.
- Prepare and present the month-end financial reporting package and executive summaries to the Chief Financial Officer and senior leadership.
- Ensure close activities are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with internal controls and reporting requirements.
Financial Statement Preparation and External Reporting
- Lead the preparation and development of consolidated and legal entity financial statements in accordance with IFRS and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain ownership of financial statement disclosures, supporting schedules, and related review controls.
- Leverage Workiva, OneStream, and other reporting technologies to streamline preparation, review, consolidation, and disclosure processes.
- Drive standardization, automation, and continuous improvement across the financial reporting function.
Audit Management and Regulatory Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors for annual audits and quarterly reviews.
- Coordinate audit requests, deliverables, status reporting, and timelines across the finance organization.
- Support the team in resolving audit matters and ensure successful and timely completion of audits and reviews.
- Ensure supporting documentation is complete, accurate, well controlled, and readily available.
Reconciliation Governance and Controls
- Oversee the monthly balance sheet reconciliation cycle across the organization, excluding cash reconciliations.
- Review and approve reconciliations and related sign-offs in accordance with established control requirements.
- Monitor aged or unresolved reconciling items and drive timely investigation and resolution.
- Ensure documentation is complete and audit-ready, with clear evidence supporting balances and review controls.
Treasury and Capital Markets Support
- Partner with Treasury to support new financing transactions, including securitizations, covered bonds, and other funding initiatives.
- Coordinate financial reporting and disclosure requirements associated with funding and capital markets activities.
Expense Management and IFRS 16 Lease Accounting
- Oversee the company’s monthly expense review, accrual processes, variance analysis, and related reporting.
- Work closely with business departments to understand spending trends, assess accrual requirements, and provide meaningful variance commentary.
- Lead the end-to-end IFRS 16 lease accounting process using the lease administration software.
- Ensure lease accounting entries, controls, supporting documentation, and financial statement disclosures are complete and accurate.
Financial Systems and Reporting Technology
- Provide financial reporting oversight for Workday General Ledger, OneStream, Workiva, and related finance systems.
- Review and approve system changes, enhancements, configurations, and reporting updates that affect financial reporting.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing and financial validation for system upgrades and process changes.
- Partner with Finance, Technology, and business stakeholders to ensure financial reporting and control requirements are met.
Strategic Projects and Business Initiatives
- Support integration activities for new acquisitions, including financial reporting, systems, controls, and process alignment.
- Lead or contribute to process improvement, finance transformation, automation, and implementation of new technologies for the finance organization.
- Undertake other strategic or ad hoc projects as required.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately six Analysts and Senior Analysts.
- Establish clear roles, priorities, performance expectations, and accountability across the team.
- Provide career guidance, professional development opportunities, regular feedback, and mentorship.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, high-performing culture focused on quality, ownership, and continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for:
- CPA or equivalent designation required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Approximately 10 or more years of progressive experience in financial reporting, accounting, external audit, or a related area.
- Approximately 3 to 5 or more years of experience leading and developing professional finance teams.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing financial statements under IFRS.
- Experience acting as a key contact for external auditors and coordinating complex audits or quarterly reviews.
- Experience with financing transactions, securitizations, covered bonds, or capital markets activities is an asset.
- Experience with acquisitions, integration activities, or finance transformation initiatives is preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, financial statement presentation, disclosure requirements, and financial controls is preferred.
- Experience with Workiva, OneStream, Workday, lease accounting software, or comparable financial reporting and consolidation platforms is an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within demanding reporting timelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial matters clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Strong project management, stakeholder management, coaching, and change leadership capabilities.
