Senior Legal Counsel: Partnerships and Investments

A fast-growing specialist commercial insurer is looking to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel into its Partnerships and Investments team. The business grows every year through specialist underwriting partners, joint ventures and acquisitions, in South Africa and across Africa. This role is the legal home for all of it.

 

What you will do

• Draft, negotiate and manage partner and transactional agreements: binder and UMA agreements, NDAs, MoUs, SHAs and SPAs

• Be the legal pillar when the business assesses and onboards new partners and acquisitions

• Interpret and advise on policy wordings, endorsements and reinsurance agreements

• Keep partner structures compliant with the Insurance Act, FAIS, TCF and POPIA

• Manage external law firms and support corporate legal work across the African footprint

• Improve legal processes and flag emerging legal risks to underwriting, claims and partnerships

 

What you will bring

• LLB, admitted attorney (strongly preferred)

• 8+ years' post-qualification experience in commercial or insurance law

• Solid insurance law exposure, ideally short-term or specialty: binders, UMAs, cell captives, reinsurance

• Corporate and transactional drafting experience; M&A exposure is a real advantage
