Job Description:

Bowie State University (BSU) invites applications for the prestigious position of Endowed Chair in Cyber-Entrepreneurship. This role presents an exceptional opportunity for a visionary leader and cybersecurity expert to guide and elevate innovation within the Department of Computer Science and across the University. The endowed chair will play a pivotal role in BSU’s strategic efforts to achieve R2 Carnegie classification and expand the University’s impact in research, entrepreneurship, and federal contracting.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership to foster a culture of innovation in cybersecurity and entrepreneurship across academic and research programs. 
  • Coordinate a cutting-edge curriculum that integrates cybersecurity and entrepreneurship.
  • Mentor students (graduate and undergraduate) and faculty in research, innovation, and professional development. 
  • Represent the University to internal and external stakeholders, including academic, government, and industry partners.
  • Maintain an independent scholarly research agenda aligned with national trends in cybersecurity and innovation. 
  • Commit to one day per week of collaborative research with an industry partner.
  • Advance the University’s status as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE). 
  • Lead efforts to secure external research funding and promote intramural research activity. 
  • Drive the development and expansion of partnerships with industry, HBCUs, and institutions within the University System of Maryland (USM).
  • Support efforts to expand BSU’s federal contracting portfolio in cybersecurity and entrepreneurship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity and entrepreneurship, with a strong background in applied research, education, and operational practices.
  • Experience in technology commercialization and entrepreneurship, including familiarity with:
    • The patent process
    • Innovation Corps (I-Corps)
    • Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
    • Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)
  • Proven leadership in building interdisciplinary teams, managing collaborative initiatives, and engaging diverse partners. 
  • A strong track record in securing external funding and facilitating student and faculty research.
  • Commitment to mentoring, community engagement, and program sustainability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, with qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • Balanced excellence in both instruction and research.
  • Ability to cultivate partnerships and lead cross-campus initiatives that enhance BSU’s research and innovation ecosystem.
  • Experience with lean startup methodology and entrepreneurship education.
  • Extensive cybersecurity experience in industry, government, or military sectors, with a record of accomplishment in innovation and collaboration.
