Senior Program Operations Manager

Japan is a key market for Airbnb’s future growth and is currently receiving significant attention and resources to further accelerate its development as both a destination and origin market. The functional teams in Japan work closely together, alongside regional and central teams, to develop and execute a unified market strategy.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a Senior Program Ops Manager, you will work with the Senior Business Operations and Growth Lead to develop and execute strategies to grow the Airbnb Platform in Japan. You will also align the functions operating in your country behind common objectives and work with other teams in the organization on cross border projects. Your attention to detail, organization, ability to multitask, work on multiple priorities and work under pressure will all ensure you succeed.

You should be great at understanding the needs of the Airbnb community and defining levers to help them succeed in the platform. You will develop strong relationships and deliver valuable guidance to help them grow within the Airbnb marketplace.

Our ambition is to significantly increase our penetration among Japanese consumers, and this role will be critical to make that happen. Your primary focus will be in: 

1. Analysis to enable robust strategy building
2. Operationalizing strong x-functional governance of the Japan business
3. Execution of our growth programs. 

All critical pillars to enable rapid and significant growth.  You will partner closely with multiple cross functional teams to achieve our origin guest ambition, and will be part of the single most accountable team regarding guest demand growth.  From analysis, strategy to execution, we expect you to drive the agenda while operationalizing multiple programs simultaneously.

 

A Typical Day:

• The role will focus on analysis to unveil insights to enable a robust growth strategy.
• Collaborate closely with cross functional teams including Community, International, Policy, Legal, Hosts Communications, Marketing, Operations, Product, and Finance to align on program goals, requirements and execution plans.  Facilitate communication and coordination across teams to drive alignment and progress.
• Equally, operationalizing a strong cross-functional governance to execute the strategy and deliver results in the market as planned will be critical.
• The person will be the point of contact of multiple cross-functional teams in-country and in-region/central in order to get feedback and provide insights on key launches.
• The person will be building the analysis and frameworks that will support the decisions taken in the country to achieve the goals.  Some potential growth programs that this person will own are; incentive programs, sponsorship programs and events.  While all are subject to change as we evolve our growth strategy.
• The person will own and support execution of the country’s origin guest growth plans.

Your Expertise:

• 8+ years experience in analytics, strategy and project management.  Experience in tech platform industries, the hospitality or online Travel Agency (OTA) industry is preferred.
• Demonstrated track record of successfully leading and delivering complex programs and initiatives with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business goals into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
• Strong bias for action and execution with an entrepreneurial perspective.
• Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic and ambiguous environment, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and drive results with a sense of urgency.
• Strong appetite for working with the Airbnb community
• Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task with excellent organization skills.
• Pays attention to both details and macro-level outcomes
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic and ever changing startup environment.  Being resilient, learning from mistakes and improving quickly.
• Ability to be proactive and handle uncertainty and ambiguity.
• Data driven, can do attitude, strategic thinker and passion for new products and solutions.
• Comfortable with Excel, SQL
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese.
• Availability to go to the local office 1-2 days per week required.
