Technical Project Manager, Infrastructure & Systems (Contract Role)
Employment Type: Contract, with potential to transition to a permanent role based on performance and business needs.
At WOW!, you’ll lead technical infrastructure projects that bring together systems, networks and the facilities that support them. From server refreshes and optical transport builds to data center upgrades and market expansions, your work will help shape and strengthen WOW!’s technology infrastructure.
You’ll work side-by-side with engineers, field and construction teams, Critical Facilities, IT Operations and outside vendors to move projects from planning and procurement through installation, launch and operational handoff.
Reporting to the Program Management Office, you’ll partner with CTIO leadership to prioritize projects and with Transformation & Integration on project standards, reporting and portfolio governance. If you enjoy connecting teams, solving complex problems and turning technical plans into results, this role offers the opportunity to make an impact across the organization.
What WOW! Offers
- Contractor Hourly Rate: Up to $61.00/hour (based on experience and qualifications)
- Medical, dental, vision and life insurance
- HSA and FSA options
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and company holidays
- Tuition reimbursement for continued development
- Employee broadband discounts
What You’ll Do
- Lead infrastructure and network projects spanning server and compute deployments, storage and backup, virtualization, hardware refreshes, optical transport, core and access networks, and headend, hub site and market expansion builds.
- Own projects from start to finish, including requirements, site surveys, design, procurement, staging, installation, turn-up, migration, acceptance and decommissioning of retired assets.
- Develop and manage project scope, schedules, resources and priorities across multiple concurrent projects, keeping delivery aligned with organizational goals.
- Coordinate construction and outside plant dependencies, including fiber routes, permits, make-ready, splicing, testing, circuits, cross-connects and third-party provider milestones.
- Partner with Critical Facilities to plan for power, cooling, space, grounding and physical security requirements.
- Manage equipment procurement and logistics, including quotes, purchase orders, vendor lead times, delivery and inventory reconciliation, while identifying supply-related schedule risks.
- Coordinate maintenance windows, change records and method of procedure (MOP) documentation, including back-out plans, through change advisory board and IT service management processes.
- Track project progress, risks and performance; resolve issues; and provide clear, timely updates to technical teams, business partners and executive leadership.
- Partner with Finance to track approved CAPEX and OPEX budgets, forecasts, actual spending, accruals and variances.
- Manage vendor, integrator and contractor performance against statements of work, milestones and acceptance criteria.
- Serve as the central point of project intake for CTIO, helping leadership scope and sequence requests while coordinating cross-team dependencies, handoffs and resource needs.
- Ensure documentation, as-builts, monitoring coverage and operational runbooks are complete before project closure.
- Mentor less experienced project managers and coordinators, and help strengthen project standards, templates, processes and performance metrics.
- Other duties may be assigned.
What You’ll Bring
- A college degree or equivalent related experience.
- 7–10 years of experience managing technical infrastructure projects, with the ability to independently prioritize and deliver a portfolio of concurrent projects.
- Working knowledge of:
- Server and systems infrastructure: x86 compute and blade platforms, virtualization, SAN/NAS, storage, backup and disaster recovery, operating system and patch lifecycles, and enterprise monitoring.
- Network and transport infrastructure: IP and routing fundamentals, optical transport and DWDM, fiber plant, access networks, and headend or hub site equipment.
- Data center and hub site environments: rack layouts, power distribution and DC plant, HVAC, structured cabling and physical site constraints.
- Comfort moving between technical domains—from a server refresh to a transport build or market expansion.
- Familiarity with IT service management, change advisory boards, maintenance windows and incident/problem workflows.
- Knowledge of Project Portfolio Management systems and experience managing CAPEX-funded builds, budget tracking, purchase orders and vendor invoicing.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect technical details to business priorities and drive delivery with teams you do not directly manage.
- Strong organizational, analytical, customer service, problem-solving and time management skills.
- The ability to learn quickly, understand organizational dependencies, build effective processes and keep teams aligned through competing priorities.
Preferred qualifications:
- PMP, CAPM or equivalent project management certification
- ServiceNow experience
- Experience with technical implementations and integrations in telecommunications, cable or broadband—strongly preferred
