Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Job Description Summary:

We are looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer who combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with strong architectural and technical leadership. In this role, you will design and build scalable, reliable systems while working across the frontend, backend, and data platforms.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role. You will spend significant time writing production-quality code, reviewing code, solving complex technical problems, and partnering with engineers and product teams to deliver high-impact solutions.

You will also play a key role in defining technical direction, reviewing architecture, and driving engineering best practices across the team.

About Team:

Our team collaborates with Walmart International, which has over 5,900 retail units operating outside of the United States under 55 banners in 26 countries including Africa, Argentina, Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Japan, and Mexico, to name a few.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack applications using React and Java/Spring Boot.
  • Build robust backend services, APIs, and distributed systems with a strong focus on performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Develop and maintain real-time and event-driven systems using Apache Kafka.
  • Design and implement large-scale data processing and analytics pipelines using Apache Spark.
  • Work across the entire technology stack—from frontend user experiences to backend services, data processing, and distributed systems.
  • Take ownership of complex technical problems and drive them from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Define and review system architecture, technical designs, APIs, data models, and integration patterns.
  • Conduct detailed code reviews and ensure high standards of code quality, maintainability, testability, and engineering excellence.
  • Establish and promote best practices around design patterns, coding standards, testing, observability, and CI/CD.
  • Identify technical debt and drive initiatives to improve system quality, performance, reliability, and developer productivity.
  • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Evaluate new technologies and approaches and drive adoption where they provide meaningful technical or business value.

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience building and operating large-scale production systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Strong experience building modern web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Strong experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven/distributed architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and large-scale data processing.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, data modeling, and system design.
  • Experience designing and implementing highly scalable and reliable systems.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, concurrency, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Strong focus on code quality, automated testing, maintainability, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience conducting architecture and code reviews and driving technical standards across engineering teams.
  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
  • Hands-on technical leader: You should be comfortable writing production code rather than being limited to architecture or technical oversight.
  • Strong system thinker: Able to reason about scalability, reliability, performance, security, and operational characteristics of complex systems.
  • Quality-focused engineer: Passionate about clean, maintainable, well-tested code and engineering excellence.
  • Architecture leader: Able to define technical direction while balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term system evolution.
  • Collaborative mentor: Able to raise the engineering bar through design discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and technical leadership.
  • End-to-end ownership: Comfortable taking a problem from requirements and architecture through implementation, deployment, and production operations.
