Overview
The Manager, Logistics & Transportation is responsible for the strategic management, optimization, and oversight of the organization’s small parcel and courier network. This role will lead relationships with national, regional, and local courier providers while developing greater visibility into transportation spend, cost per package, service performance, and opportunities for network optimization.
The ideal candidate brings 5–7 years of progressive experience managing small parcel, last-mile delivery, and/or courier services in a multi-location environment. This position is specifically focused on small parcel and courier transportation; prior truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL), or freight management experience is not required.
The Manager will partner closely with Procurement, Finance, Operations, and business stakeholders to establish a more standardized, data-driven approach to courier management while maintaining the service levels required by the organization.

Responsibilities
- Manages the organization’s portfolio of national, regional, and local small parcel and courier providers
- Serves as the primary subject matter expert for small parcel, courier, expedited, same-day, next-day, and last-mile transportation services
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with courier providers
- Establishes service expectations, performance standards, escalation procedures, and governance processes across the courier network
- Evaluates the appropriate use of national couriers, regional providers, and local courier services based on cost, service requirements, and geographic coverage
- Supports operational teams in resolving recurring delivery, billing, service, and courier performance issue
- Develops comprehensive visibility into transportation spend across courier providers, locations, business units, and service levels
- Establishes and monitors key metrics including cost per package, cost per delivery, package volume, accessorial charges, expedites usage, service-level performance, and spend by provider
- Identifies cost drivers, trends, anomalies, and opportunities for savings or service improvement
- Partners with Finance and Procurement to improve invoice visibility, cost allocation, budgeting, forecasting, and transportation spend reporting
- Supports the implementation and ongoing management of parcel analytics, transportation spend management, freight audit, or similar technology platforms
- Develops dashboards and recurring reporting that provide leadership with clear visibility into transportation cost and performance
- Identifies opportunities to consolidate volume, reduce unnecessary courier usage, improve routing decisions, and leverage organizational scale
- Develops business cases and recommendations for transportation cost-reduction initiatives
- Tracks and validates realized savings from sourcing and optimization initiatives
- Develops courier scorecards and key performance indicators for cost, service, reliability, responsiveness, and delivery performance
- Conducts regular business reviews with strategic providers
- Identifies underperforming providers, locations, service levels, or shipping practices and develop corrective action plans
- Evaluates opportunities to standardize courier selection and shipping processes across a geographically dispersed organization
- Balances cost optimization with operational requirements, delivery urgency, customer needs, and service continuity
- Identifies opportunities to automate courier selection, shipment tracking, invoice auditing, and transportation reporting
- Partners with Procurement, Finance, Operations, Accounts Payable, and local business leaders to improve transportation processes and controls
- Translates transportation data into actionable recommendations for business and executive leadership
- Develops policies, standards, and best practices for small parcel and courier usage
- Supports change management associated with courier transitions, technology implementations, and transportation process improvements
- Serves as the internal subject matter expert for small parcel and courier transportation
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Finance, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, small parcel, courier management, last-mile delivery, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience managing small parcel and/or courier providers
- Experience analyzing transportation spend, package volumes, courier rates, and service performance
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate large transportation datasets into actionable insights
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with reporting, analytics, or business intelligence tools
- Strong vendor management, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with operational, financial, procurement, and executive stakeholders
Preferred
- Experience managing a large, geographically dispersed, multi-location courier network
- Experience with parcel spend management, transportation management, freight audit/payment, and analytics platforms
- Experience developing scorecards and cost-per-package reporting
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar business intelligence tools
- Experience implementing or improving transportation technology and data integrations
- Experience identifying and delivering measurable transportation cost savings
