Responsibilities
LMI is seeking an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to lead the design and integration of hybrid cloud and on-premises computing platforms supporting federal customers and classified environments. This role focuses on on-premises cloud infrastructure for compute, storage and application hosting, with secure remote connectivity through external cloud services as permitted, by customer security, authorization, and cross-domain solutions (CDS), and developing scalable, secure infrastructure solutions that support customer mission requirements. The Senior Platform Engineer will provide technical expertise across cloud computing, virtualization, containerization, enterprise infrastructure, and platform integration to enable secure and reliable enterprise capabilities. Specifically- designing on-prem cloud infrastructure/platform for compute, storage and systems/apps; transport through external cloud services for remote connectivity.
The Senior Platform Engineer will serve as a senior technical authority for computing platform design and integration, working closely with technical architects, systems engineers, cybersecurity specialists, networking engineers, and other subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop comprehensive technical solutions. Key areas of responsibility include evaluating platform technologies, developing infrastructure designs, coordinating cross-domain (CDS), and technical solution recommendations, integrating with designated specialists, and incorporating security configurations and controls appropriate for classified computing environments. This individual will translate customer requirements into practical platform designs, and present technical recommendations to program leadership and customer stakeholders.
This position combines technical leadership, platform engineering, and customer engagement, requiring an individual capable of evaluating complex enterprise environments and developing practical, secure, and scalable platform solutions. The Senior Platform Engineer will guide platform implementation and validation, support technical planning, identify engineering resource requirements, and assist in recruiting and building project teams, and serve as a senior technical advisor throughout solution implementation. Success in this role requires broad enterprise architecture expertise, deep knowledge of cloud and infrastructure technologies, strong technical communication skills, and the ability to translate complex mission requirements into integrated, operationally sustainable solutions.
Primary duties include:
- Platform Requirements Discovery & Analysis: Collaborate with customers and technical stakeholders to identify platform requirements, assess existing infrastructure, and translate mission objectives into technical solutions. Evaluate availability, capacity, remote access, operational constraints, integration dependencies, security requirements, and technical risks.
- Enterprise Platform Architecture & Solution: Design and guide implementation of secure, scalable computing, hybrid cloud, and on-premises platform architectures incorporating, compute, storage, virtualization, containerization, and infrastructure automation. Prioritize on-premises cloud infrastructure and define interfaces with external cloud services for approved remote connectivity. Evaluate technology alternatives and solutions supporting customer mission requirements.
- Cross-Domain Solutions Evaluation & Integration: Evaluate and recommend accredited cross-domain solutions (CDS) to enable information exchange across classified environments. Assess platform interfaces, integration requirements, security boundaries, and technical dependencies for CDS integration in coordination with cybersecurity, networking, and engineering SMEs. Support solution evaluation and integration within customer authorization requirements.
- Technical Solution Development & Customer Engagement: Develop architectural designs and diagrams, implementation plans, technical solution concepts, and engineering recommendations in response to customer requirements. Assess technical feasibility and integration, and document solution alternatives, and present recommendations to program leadership and customer stakeholders.
- Platform Security, Validation & Documentation: Incorporate applicable security controls, configuration standards, and authorization requirements into platform designs. Guide integration testing, configuration validation, and transition to operations. Develop technical specifications, and repeatable deployment procedures. Integrate documentation to support solution development and implementation. Plan and implement procedures to support transition to and from continuity of operations.
