Assistant Controller

Description

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in delivering accurate, timely accounting, reporting, and financial analysis for Corvant's Service Division. This role owns key parts of the monthly close, WIP reconciliation, service billing, and variance reporting, and serves as a day-to-day finance partner to branch operations and Corporate Accounting.

Working closely with the Controller, Operations leaders, and branch administrative teams, the Assistant Controller turns financial and operational data into clear reporting and insight, supports budgeting and forecasting, and helps strengthen processes and controls as the service platform grows.

Requirements

Month-End Close and Accounting

• Coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly close activities with Corporate Accounting to support a timely and accurate monthly close

• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations for the Service Division

• Reconcile WIP on service projects and support cost-to-complete reviews with Operations

• Review capital expenditures, depreciation, and fixed asset activity for accuracy and proper treatment

• Support audit, tax, consolidation, and cost control requests from Corporate finance functions

Financial Reporting and Analysis

• Prepare monthly financial reports, dashboards, and KPI packages for Division and Platform leaders

• Analyze business line and branch performance against budget and reforecast, and prepare variance explanations and actual-to-plan bridges

• Identify trends in financial and operational performance and bring recommendations to the Controller

• Complete ad hoc analysis for Division and Platform leaders as requested

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Support the annual budget and quarterly reforecast process for the Service Platform

• Maintain the calendar year Service Forecast in partnership with the Controller

• Work with Operations to translate financial data into manpower forecasts

• Support capital expenditure forecasting and tracking of profit plans against interim performance

Billing, Cash, and Incentive Programs

• Support the monthly service billing process so all PMAs, service tickets, and service projects are billed completely and accurately

• Monitor AR aging, partner with branches on collections, and support disbursement management to meet cash and AR metrics

• Prepare quarterly and annual commission and bonus calculations across the platform for Controller review

Systems, Process Improvement, and Team Support

• Serve as a finance point of contact for the service business systems implementation team

• Identify and help implement improvements to procedures, controls, and reporting that scale with the business

• Train and support branch service administrative employees on accounting processes, billing, and system use

• Back up the Controller on key responsibilities as needed

Success Profile

The successful Assistant Controller is detail-driven, dependable, and comfortable working between the numbers and the field. They keep the close on schedule, produce reporting that leaders trust, and dig in when results do not tie out. They build credibility with branch teams and Corporate Accounting alike, communicate clearly at every level, and are motivated to grow into a Controller role.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• 5+ years of progressive accounting or financial analysis experience, including at least 2 years in a field service, construction, or mechanical contracting environment

• Working knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, account reconciliations, and cost of completion (WIP) accounting

• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling

• Working knowledge of ERP and CRM software and the ability to use systems to give stakeholders visibility into their business

• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

• Clear communicator able to work effectively with stakeholders across Operations and Finance

Preferred

• CPA or progress toward CPA

• Experience in HVAC, mechanical, or field service accounting, including service agreement (PMA) billing

• Private equity-backed company experience

• Experience supporting an ERP or business system implementation

• Experience with Power BI or similar reporting and dashboard tools
