We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support Technical Services by maintaining, developing and implementing engineering standards, systems and tools that enhance the reliability, safety and performance of our operations. This role provides the opportunity to apply technical expertise to complex engineering challenges, evaluate project options and influence the long-term performance of electrical assets.  The role is based in Labrador and is a residential role; fly-in/fly-out is not available. Relocation assistance is provided if applicable.

Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Services and working in a challenging and rewarding environment, you will collaborate with operational, maintenance and project teams to deliver safe, practical and cost-effective engineering solutions. 

What you’ll be doing 

• Independently provide operational support for electrical system issues and change improvements

• Independently provide technical support for electrical upgrades driven by operations and capital projects

• Conduct independent technical reviews of project designs and deliverables for capital sustaining projects

• Provide technical leadership on electrical engineering studies, asset improvements and sustaining capital projects across the full project lifecycle. 

• Provide technical expertise ensuring engineering standards, maintainability, and operational requirements are integrated into project designs and executions

• Oversee and maintain Single Line Diagrams, ETAP Model and Relay Setting File

• Provide onboarding and training for new team members on IOC standards, systems and practices

• Provide stamped engineering packages for self designed or department-led scopes including procurement packages, P&IDs, single line diagrams, control network diagrams and electrical schematics.

• Review internal engineering packages for technical accuracy and completeness

Required for Success 

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. 

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in Power Engineering. 

• Professional Engineer registration with PEGNL, or eligibility to obtain registration. 

• Extensive experience delivering electrical engineering solutions in industrial, mining, processing, manufacturing, utilities or other large-scale operational or brownfield environments. 

• Knowledge of power distribution systems, electrical asset management and engineering design practices. 

Helpful for Success 

• Experience supporting iron ore processing facilities, railway infrastructure and/or port operations. 

• Experience in high-voltage power systems design and analysis. 

• Experience using ETAP for power system modelling and studies. 

• Experience working in operational environments and supporting brownfield projects. 

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. 

• Experience supporting electrical infrastructure across industrial plants or power distribution networks. 

• Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)

• Current knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply relevant industry standards (CSA, ANSI, ISA, IEEE, NFPA, IECE, etc.) for compliant designs

• Familiarity with drafting and modeling software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
