The City of Durham has vacancies for SR Maintenance Specialist; within the Collection Maintenance Division of Water Management. The City of Durham’s Department of Water Management (DWM) provides critical water and sewer services to the 309,000 plus residents of Durham. Devoted to maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, and roads. Provide specialized paraprofessional and skilled technical maintenance work that requires sufficient subject-matter knowledge and expertise in an assigned field to reconcile and verify the work of others; train others; serve as an escalation point for problem-solving; coordinate processes. Performs highly technical maintenance work or lead work crews performing basic and complex labor, equipment operation, construction, maintenance, and/or repair tasks. Responsible for ensuring daily activity logs and reports are correctly completed; assigning work; inspecting work; ensuring quality control; operating complex equipment; and performing the most complex tasks related to the work assignment.

• Performs preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance; uses specialized equipment, tools, and machinery to repair and rebuild pumps, motors, gearboxes, and other equipment and facility components; and fabricates

• Inspects, tests, and cleans equipment, alarms, and related equipment to ensure proper working conditions and compliance with applicable safety and operating regulations, policies, and procedures. parts. Performs office and operational support duties, such as receiving work orders, stocking vehicles with necessary supplies and tools for work, maintaining databases and records, cleaning and/or washing down the work area, performing emergency or on-call duties, maintaining inventory, answering phones, and training lower-level staff.

• Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

• Positions assigned to lift stations may be responsible for: Performing preventative and corrective maintenance along with replacement of critical equipment of wastewater pumping stations including performing regular inspections and cleaning equipment.

• Coordinates corrective routine and preventative maintenance for equipment, piping, and facility components; visually inspects equipment function and ancillary parts; performs welding, equipment alignment, and pump maintenance; assists with prioritizing and monitoring staff assignments; trains staff; and ensures compliance with safety and applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Maintains and verifies supply and parts inventory; obtains quotes from vendors, submitting information to management for approval; identifies and resolves safety issues; and coordinates the cleaning of work areas and removal of chemical spills.

• Prepares and maintains reports, records, and other documentation; compiles and submits information to maintenance management system; reviews work to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Positions assigned to Lift Stations may be responsible for:

• Performing preventative and corrective maintenance along with replacement of critical equipment of wastewater pumping stations including performing regular inspections and cleaning equipment.

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
• One year of additional technical training in the area of assignment. 
• Four years of plant maintenance experience.
• Must complete job related and/or safety training based on assignment, such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out, confined space entry, ladder safety, CPR, respirator and emergency evacuation training.
• Valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license "or" if you currently have another state’s driver's license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire
• Positions assigned to wastewater treatment require a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a tanker endorsement within six months of hire.

• North Carolina Wastewater Collections certification and/or AWWA Maintenance Technologist I certification.

• Two years’ experience working with a CMMS program.

• Experience in an Industrial, manufacturing, or water utility setting.
