Description
The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Social Worker at the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
THE POSITION
The Social Worker provides professional social work services to individuals housed in the county jail, including assessment, case management, crisis intervention, resource coordination, and referrals to appropriate community services. The position works collaboratively with custody staff, behavioral health professionals, healthcare providers, and community partners to address individual needs and support successful transitions to the community.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a compassionate and skilled Social Worker with strong assessment, case management, communication, and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a correctional environment, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary partners to support individuals with complex behavioral health and social service needs.
Definition
Under close supervision, learns the laws, policies and administrative procedures related to County Social Services programs; learns and applies the principles and techniques of interviewing, caseload organization and management and the use of community resources; learns and applies the principles and techniques of problem solving; learns to determine individual needs for services and develop appropriate treatment plans for a variety of socio-economic needs; carries a caseload of increasing size and difficulty; and performs other related work as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the entry-level class in the social work series. Incumbents receive on-the-job training and close supervision and are gradually assigned caseloads. As incumbents acquire increased knowledge and abilities, they are expected to function more independently and carry a caseload of increasing size and difficulty.
This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Social Worker in that the former is assigned caseloads, which are of simple to average difficulty, while the latter is assigned caseloads of average to complex difficulty.

- Learns and applies the basic principles and techniques of social work;
- Interviews clients or applicants in a variety of settings to assess their need for services;
- Interprets rules, regulations, and policy to applicants, clients and the community;
- Responds to requests and makes referrals to utilize appropriate community and other resources;
- Coordinates service plans with supervisor and appropriate resources;
- Gathers, maintains and disseminates current information and community resources to Clients, applicants and departmental staff;
- Prepares case records, documents and reports in a timely manner; participates in staff development programs; and
- Consults with supervisor on an on-going basis.
Education: Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units in Social Welfare, Sociology, Psychology or other Social/Human Services; AND
Experience: One (1) year experience as an Eligibility Worker II; OR three (3) years experience as a Vocational Assistant; OR eighteen (18) months casework experience in a public or private Social Services Agency.
License
Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Verification of Education
Acceptable forms of educational documentation are official or unofficial transcripts that list the student's name, institution name, field of study and date the degree was awarded.
For recent graduates who have not received proof of their degree yet, a letter from the registrar's office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.

All foreign transcripts or diplomas must be in English. If the institution does not provide these documents in English, the applicant will need to provide a translation which has been done by a professional agency. The County of Yolo will accept education as equivalent to U.S. accreditation from Institutions that are listed as members of the International Association of Universities. Applicants who possess a degree or completed coursework that is not from an accredited college or university, must submit one of the following:
1. A written statement from a U.S. accredited university or college that states that the applicant is qualified for entrance to a program of graduate studies for which a degree in a related field is required.
2. An evaluation of the applicant's degree and coursework equivalency by a private organization that provides foreign credential evaluation services. The evaluation must include a comparison of comparable U.S. courses for content, credit and grade.
Note: Foreign language documents must include a precise word-for-word English translation of all foreign language documents. It is the responsibility of each applicant to prove to the satisfaction of the County that the applicant meets the specific requirements listed on the job announcement for each specific examination.
