JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Handyman Assistant
REPORTING TO:
Facilities and Office Manager – JHB Offices
LOCATION:
Johannesburg, Sandton
JOB PURPOSE:
To provide support to the Handyman and Facilities Manager in maintaining the Johannesburg office buildings and facilities. The Handyman Assistant is responsible for assisting with general maintenance, minor repairs, office upkeep, furniture movement, and ensuring a safe, clean, and functional working environment across all assigned buildings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Maintenance
- Assist with maintenance work across all Johannesburg office buildings.
- Support with routine inspections of buildings, fixtures, and fittings.
- Assist in identifying maintenance issues and reporting defects to management.
- Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed within agreed timelines.
Repairs and Upkeep
- Assist with repairs to office furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Support painting, touch-up work, and minor refurbishments.
- Assist with maintenance of gutters, drains, doors, locks, handles, and windows.
- Perform basic carpentry and DIY tasks as required.
Plumbing Assistance
- Assist with basic plumbing maintenance such as replacing washers, repairing taps, and unblocking toilets.
- Report larger plumbing issues requiring specialist attention.
Office Support
- Assist with moving office furniture, equipment, and materials when required.
- Help set up meeting rooms, workstations, or office spaces as needed.
Health, Safety and Housekeeping
- Identify hazards and unsafe conditions and report them promptly.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean and safe.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
Grounds / External Areas
- Assist with inspections of garden structures and outdoor areas.
- Undertake minor repairs or report replacement needs to the Office Manager.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a maintenance, handyman assistant, facilities, or similar role.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance.
- Good communication skills.
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual work.
- Ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively.

WORKING HOURS:
Maximum of 45 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday: Maximum 8 or 9 hours per day depending on roster.
- Required to work alternative Saturdays in line with operational requirements.

- Quality of repairs and upkeep.
- Cleanliness and safety of work areas.
