LA28 is the independent, non-profit, privately funded organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We are on a singular mission to create an Olympic and Paralympic Games that celebrate all that this city and country have to offer, delivering an unparalleled experience for athletes, fans, partners and our community.
The 2028 Games mark the return of the Summer Games to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years and Los Angeles’ third time hosting an Olympic Games and first time welcoming the Paralympic Games. This presents a unique and exciting opportunity to celebrate our legacy with the Games and push the Olympic and Paralympic Movements forward, writing a new chapter of Games history in Los Angeles.
Putting on an Olympic and Paralympic Games is a team sport. To build a Games unlike any the world has seen before, we need the best team in place–a team full of diverse perspectives, experiences and expertise. We are guided by the following set of values and behaviors–optimism, integrity, excellence, inclusion, co-creation and boldness–and look forward to hearing about how your past experiences align with them.
Technical Operations Lead - Badminton
Role Purpose
As the leader of Badminton Technical Operations, you will establish the technical backbone of the Olympic and Paralympic Badminton competitions, shaping how the sport is delivered at the LA28 Games before it exists. You will own the fields of play, the scoring and results technology, and the standards that let athletes compete fairly.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of all technical operations for the Olympic and Paralympic Badminton competitions.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), translating technical standards into clear requirements.
• Safeguard compliance across all fields of play with BWF Competition Regulations, IPC standards where applicable, and International Federation mandates.
• Own the implementation, testing, and live operation of the BWF scoring and results systems, integrating with Games-wide technology, timing, and broadcast partners.
• Drive venue planning, operational readiness exercises, test events, and rehearsals that surface risks early.
Background and Requirements
• Proven track record of successfully delivering elite-level Badminton World Federation (BWF) major events, such as the World Championships, Para Badminton World Championships, Thomas & Uber Cup Finals, Sudirman Cup Finals, or World Tour Finals.
• Hands-on experience operating official tournament management software, including BWF-approved scoring systems, results networks, and Instant Review Systems (IRS).
• Strong proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and Smartsheet.
• A bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.
Valued Experience
• Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) for technical documentation and presentations.
• Familiarity with formal project management methodologies and scheduling tools to track milestones and deliverables.
• Experience delivering at a multi-sport Games.
• A genuine passion for sport, especially badminton or para-sport, and for an exceptional athlete and stakeholder experience.
What We Offer
• A historic, once-in-a-career chance to shape how a global sport is delivered at the LA28 Games.
• Deep cross-functional exposure across technology, broadcast, and international sport partners, building durable, transferable skills.
• Committed teammates who take pride in world-class delivery, with real ownership and visible impact.
What This Role Means for the Games
Badminton is decided in fractions of a second, and the technical operation you deliver keeps every result fair, fast, and trusted. Your work lets athletes worldwide compete at their best, contributing to a Games the country will remember.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
• Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office.
• The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.
• The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.
• Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.
• Perform other duties as required; the role will evolve over time and may include operational responsibilities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
• Willingness to travel extensively, domestically and internationally, for site visits, test events, observation, and competition delivery.
• Capacity to stay mobile across large venue footprints for extended periods, and to safely lift, transport, and set up light technical equipment.
• Ability to maintain composure and sharp decision-making in a dynamic, high-stakes sports environment.
