Job Title:
Chemical OperatorSummary:
In this role you will be responsible for the proper transfer of chemicals/materials within the plant and monitoring control panel functions per operating instructions specific to the process while ensuring safety and environmental controls.Responsibilities Include:
Loading and unloading of final product, raw materials and waste streams via tank truck, drums, sacks or other types of containers
Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook, per procedure.
Obtain material samples for laboratory analysis using proper safety measures
Handling of drums using drum dolly or forklifts.
Moving of trailers safely with Yard Mule.
Handling plant utilities, including, but not limited to Hot Oil System, Cooling Water Tower, Process Water, Chiller System, Nitrogen Tanks, Flare System,
Furnaces and Boilers
Complete understanding and demonstrated knowledge of all Safety and Emergency Procedures
Maintain efficient working knowledge of the plant’s shutdown and startup procedures
Monitor inventory of raw materials and ensure accurate recording all necessary data on transfers
Dismantle and clean filtering equipment, as needed per procedure.
Understanding and the management of Environmental Procedures
General housekeeping in process areas and operating areas
Wash and rinse reactors
Regulate the flow of steam, air or oil
Operate equipment to adjust speed of chemical reactions or yields
Report spills or dangerous conditions
Draw samples of product
Patrol tanks and troughs to ensure they are not overflowing and enter in logbook.
Use steam to defrost frozen valves per procedure.
Operate and test towers, soap-spray vessels, storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors and driers
Ensure chemicals are stored properly per procedure and SDS
Must have taken and successfully passed the mPD Unit Tests and been signed off by Supervision.
Must be able to LOTO per plant procedures
Communicate safety concerns with management by participating in safety team meetings and other means (concern reports, etc.)
Understand and execute life critical systems such as LOTO.
Basic understanding of LEAN, 5S and GEMBA
All other duties as assigned
Entry level rate for this position is: $32.73
Qualifications:
The following are required for the role
High school diploma or GED
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to receive detailed instructions by telephone and/or handheld radio.
Able to work independently and multi-task.
The following are preferred for the role
1-2 years' work experience in a manufacturing setting.
