JOB SUMMARY:  

Performs entry level duties for maintaining Treatment Plant grounds, buildings, assisting Plant Operator and driving a dump truck. Works a rotating shift. Must obtain a Class “B” CDL within 120 days of employment.  



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Assists with the maintenance of wastewater plant including basic plumbing and pipe fitting;
  • Collects wastewater samples;
  • Performs grounds work (mowing, painting, floor maintenance and routine cleaning of structures and equipment;
  • Reads and records data from monitors and gauges;
  • Learns to operate a variety of light to heavy construction equipment but not limited to a dump truck, front-end loader, skid loader and various construction tools and equipment; 
  • Learns the use of light to medium construction tools and equipment;
  • Learns to perform basic plumbing, pipefitting installation, repair and maintenance duties; 
  • Gains a considerable understanding of the methods and operations to maintain the wastewater treatment plant, and as training progresses, must be able to work independently and exercise good judgement; 


SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as required


SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS: None.

 


Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:

  • General procedures for installing, maintaining, and repairing wastewater services;
  • Safety hazards, procedures and equipment used when working on or near underground utility lines;
  • Tools, equipment, materials, and supplies needed to maintain wastewater treatment facility;
  • Good housekeeping skills to maintain a safe working environment;
  • Must possess computer application skills that at a minimum include Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Excel.


ABILITY:

  • Follow established procedures for operating the wastewater treatment facility;
  • Read plat maps and blueprints;
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent;
  • Ability to follow instructions; responds to management direction and completes tasks in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and precisely; responds well to questions and listens attentively; 
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements;
  • Ability to pass random drug screenings and criminal history background check.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 120 days of employment;


REQUIRED EDUCATION/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school education or G.E.D.; one to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


PREFERRED EDUCATION/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school education or G.E.D.; three to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
