This role helps drive the adoption of new and emerging technologies at BCI, with a significant current focus on artificial intelligence.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The ideal candidate combines an investment or finance background with a demonstrated record of applying emerging technologies, particularly AI, to real business problems. Rather than deep engineering expertise, the role calls for business fluency, technological curiosity, and the ability to earn the confidence of investment professionals and business partners across the organization.
The Director also serves as a visible champion for emerging technology at BCI, representing the organization at internal and external events and engaging with clients and portfolio companies on AI and other emerging technology topics. The position is based in Victoria and may travel on occasion among BCI offices.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
Reporting to the Senior Director, Digital Transformation & Innovation, the Director, Digital Transformation & Innovation works closely with investment teams and corporate departments across BCI to identify high-potential opportunities and leads initiatives from concept through experimentation and piloting to transition into the business.
WHAT YOU BRING
A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; an MBA, CFA, or similar designation is an asset
10+ years of progressive experience in investment management, capital markets, banking, consulting, or a related field
Strong knowledge of the investment management industry and institutional investment processes
A demonstrated passion, curiosity, and track record with new and emerging technologies, including sustained hands-on use of leading AI tools and concrete examples of applying them to business problems
A broad awareness of the emerging technology landscape and its implications for institutional investors
Sufficient technical fluency to engage credibly with technologists and vendors, and to translate between technical and business audiences
A track record of taking initiatives from idea through execution to adoption
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with comfort presenting to executives, large audiences, clients, and external partners
Well-informed, independent points of view, with the confidence to advocate for them and an openness to being challenged
An entrepreneurial mindset, a bias for action, and comfort navigating ambiguity
Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Emerging Technology & AI Leadership
Champions the adoption of new and emerging technologies across BCI, with a significant current focus on AI
Partners with the Senior Director to shape and evolve the digital transformation and innovation strategy and portfolio in line with corporate and technology strategies
Monitors the emerging technology landscape, forms views on its relevance to BCI, and translates findings into opportunities and readiness initiatives
Maintains deep personal fluency with the latest AI models, tools, and techniques, and models best practices in their use
Contributes to BCI’s responsible adoption of AI, supporting the development of guidelines, governance, and risk practices
Delivery & Business Partnership
Leads initiatives end to end, from opportunity identification through experiments, proofs of concept, and pilots, to transition into the sponsoring business area
Develops a deep understanding of business partners’ processes and priorities, building the trust needed to effect meaningful change
Works with asset classes and corporate departments to co-identify and co-create technology-driven improvements and new sources of value
Leads the evaluation and prioritization of high-potential ideas and supports funding approval processes
Measures and communicates the value delivered and ensures a well-supported handover of results to business and technology owners
Thought Leadership & Engagement
Represents BCI as a speaker and thought leader on AI and emerging technology at company events and with clients, portfolio companies, and external networks
Communicates a compelling vision for what new and emerging technologies make possible at BCI
Supports technology literacy and adoption across the organization through training, enablement, and knowledge sharing
Fosters connections with external innovation networks, research institutions, and technology partners to bring outside ideas in
Strategic Partners & Vendor Management
Builds and maintains productive relationships with technology vendors, partners, and external service providers to access specialized capabilities and augment capacity
Monitors the vendor and research landscape and identifies potential partners for collaboration and co-development
Management & Leadership
Leads cross-functional initiative teams of internal and external resources, setting objectives, priorities, and delivery plans
Establishes the KPIs and reporting used to track, optimize, and communicate progress and outcomes
Manages the financial resources allocated to assigned initiatives, including budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring
Creates a supportive and healthy working environment by modeling effective communication, collaboration, engagement, and teamwork
Undertakes special projects or assignments as required
Performs other related duties as required

This job is in our headquarters office in Victoria, BC, Canada.
SALARY RANGE
The annualized salary range for this role is CAD $150,000 - $180,000.
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
