Description of Work

The Interpreter III serves as the Assistant Site Manager and is responsible for the recruitment, selection, supervision and evaluation of temporary employees and volunteers and will be responsible for the development of interpretive programs and special events, conduct tours as part of the visitor services, give general on-site and off-site presentations, provide living history demonstrations, conduct appropriate artifact management and care techniques, coordinate a docents program, research topics, perform clerical and financial duties, perform site purchasing via e-procurement, follow purchasing procedures, operate sales desk, greet visitors, supervise two permanent staff as well as temporary staff and volunteers, and help with site maintenance.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Supervision of two full-time staff and temporary staff and volunteers
· Research and compilation of documents; care of artifacts; daily grounds and facility upkeep and cleanliness
· Conduct tours as part of the visitor services and give general on-site and off-site presentations
· Perform site purchasing via e-procurement and budget management
· Responsible for the development of interpretive programs and special events

Recruitment Range: $33,902.00 - $43,000.00

  • Experience with event planning, promotion, and logistics

Position/Physical Requirement

  • Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Minimum Education and Experience

AND

four years of experience in giving or developing museum tours;

Section/Unit Description

Brunswick Town is located south of Wilmington, NC in Brunswick County. The site covers 120 acres. On this property are the archaeological remains of sixty buildings, wells, and warehouses of the colonial period, the historic walls of St. Philips Anglican Church, the earthenworks of a Confederate Civil War fortification – Fort Anderson, a visitor center museum (4,000 sq. ft) and a maintenance building (1,500 sq. ft). Brunswick Town was the first permanent settlement of the Cape Fear area. It was first settled in 1726 and continued until 1776 when it was captured and burned by British forces in the Revolutionary War. In 1862, this same property became the location of a Confederate fortification of the Civil War – Fort Anderson. 

Division Description

The mission of the N.C. Division of Historic Sites and Properties is to preserve, maintain, operate, interpret, and develop the historic properties and attendant historic resources significant to the state’s overall history. A state historic site is a property of cultural and educational significance to the residents and visitors of North Carolina. Historic Sites are organized into geographic localities, which serve as a medium for communicating the economic, cultural, and political development of the state.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Sign On Bonus Eligibility
