Description
Director, AI Transformation Programs
Role Summary
The Director, AI Transformation Programs leads the delivery of large, cross-cutting AI programs that span multiple strategic workstreams and functional areas of the AI Transformation Council (AITC) - initiatives such as enterprise coding-assistant rollouts, skills-intelligence platforms, and frontier-model pilots. Where individual workstreams own strategy within their domain, this role owns end-to-end execution across domains: a single integrated plan, single-point accountability, and measurable adoption and value outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Program leadership - own two to three enterprise AI programs end-to-end, from business case and vendor selection through pilot, scaled rollout, and value realization.
- Integrated planning - build and drive one plan per program across the workstreams and functional areas it touches (data, architecture, security, legal, workforce, commercial), resolving cross-domain dependencies and sequencing.
- Vendor & partner management - manage AI platform and tooling vendors through evaluation, contracting support, deployment, and performance management; hold partners to adoption and outcome commitments.
- Technical fluency - understand the solutions being deployed - LLM-based assistants, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented systems, API integrations - well enough to challenge vendor claims, shape architecture decisions with engineering counterparts, and de-risk delivery.
- Adoption & value - define the adoption and value plan per program - executed with and through the owning workstreams and functional areas - with usage and value indicators instrumented from day one and used to course-correct.
- Executive stakeholder management - operate confidently with senior workstream and functional-area leaders; prepare crisp ESC-level updates and decision papers; escalate by exception with options, not problems.
- Delivery discipline - set the delivery standard for how AI programs are run centrally - reusable playbooks, gate criteria, and lessons learned that raise the bar for every subsequent program.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in technology program management, transformation delivery, or product/platform leadership, with 5+ years leading complex, multi-stakeholder programs in a global matrix organization.
- Demonstrated delivery of at least one enterprise-scale technology or AI/ML program from initiation to adoption at scale.
- Working technical literacy in modern AI: generative AI and LLM concepts, agentic and RAG architectures, model integration patterns, and the basics of the AI development lifecycle.
- Strong commercial and vendor-management skills, including SaaS/AI platform contracting and performance management.
- Executive-grade communication: able to distill complex programs into decisions for C-level forums.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying AI coding assistants, copilots, or enterprise GenAI platforms.
- Life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated-industry background; familiarity with validation and AI governance requirements.
- Program management certification (e.g., MSP, PgMP, PMP) or equivalent applied track record.
Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- Assigned programs have a single integrated plan, clear accountability, and are delivering against committed milestones.
- Adoption and value metrics are defined, instrumented, and trending positively for each program.
- Workstream and functional-area leaders actively pull this role in as the recognized execution owner for cross-cutting initiatives.
