We are an award-winning architectural and engineering firm and a leader in the design of healthcare facilities, corporate headquarters, labs, museums, higher education buildings, and central heating and cooling plants. The mechanical systems in a building include the heating and cooling plants, air and water distribution systems, fire protection, plumbing, and control systems to operate the mechanical systems in the most energy efficient manner.

 

This is a paid co-op/internship for a University of Minnesota student that is expected to last at least a semester beginning March 2027 and June 2027, however we can be flexible with timing.

In this role you will:

 

• Learn to use software to analyze the heating and cooling loads in buildings.
• Be trained to model mechanical systems in Revit – the 3D drafting tool used in the construction industry.
• Also be involved in various mechanical design tasks such as analyzing stresses in steam distribution piping, calculating the outside air required in a health care facility, or modeling distribution ductwork and piping in an office complex.

 

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates should meet the following requirements:

 

• Currently enrolled as a sophomore or junior at the University of Minnesota.
• Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and having completed at least two years of coursework.
• Able to commute to and work from the office.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment.
• Previous experience through internships or co-op assignments in the design or construction industry is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is highly desirable and would enable immediate contribution to project work.

 

Salary Information:

 

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Hourly Rate: $24.00 - $25/hour depending on experience.
