Hiring Unit:
School of Communications Sciences and Disorders
Position Summary:
This job will be paid only for activities related to data entry, organization, and cleaning; transcription and translation; and other data-related tasks.
Duties include:
- Read and receive training on measures being used as part of this study; Reviewing and entering data into the appropriate folders owned by the Child Phonology Lab.
- Organize and clean raw data files; Transcribe audio and video files in Spanish and French into soft word documents and other digitized formats; Translate Spanish and French transcriptions into either language and occasionally into English.
- Review audio and video data files that will facilitate coding, analysis, and inter-rater reliability;
- Assist with tasks related to coding, analysis, and inter-rater reliability of study data; Aid with inputting, updating, and organizing data accurately inside spreadsheets and other structures approved by the study’s IRB;
- Receive training on structures being used for analysis as needed;
- Meet periodically with doctoral student and/or PI as needed.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Spanish, French, and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.
- Interest in child and language development.
- Interest in communication sciences and disorders.
- Fully trilingual in Spanish, English, and French; with and interest in learning about other non-official languages.
- TCPS 2: CORE-2022 (Course on Research Ethics) certificate.
- Awareness or willingness to learn about Latin-American culture and/or populations; including but not limited to language, cultural, immigration, and social issues that impact these communities in Canada.
- Awareness or willingness to learn about culturally responsive speech-language pathology practice and what it means to enact cultural humility when working with vulnerable populations.
- Awareness or willingness to learn about social determinants of health.
- Awareness or willingness to learn about intersectionality in health practice.
- Openness to feedback and constructive coaching
- Implement operational changes and strategic pivots swiftly based on instructions from managers and peers.
- Objectively recognize personal strengths and skill gaps.
- Take full ownership of mistakes, identifying them as learning opportunities rather than deflecting blame.
- Maintain intellectual curiosity; actively invest time in developing new skills to meet changing demands of home visits.
- Strong belief that abilities and skills can be developed through continuous learning.
- Flexibility and willingness to step out of comfortable routines to experiment with new processes and adapt systems and processes.
- Ability to ask clarifying questions and reframe challenging feedback into tangible goals.
- Ability or willingness to talk and engage with preschoolers who are developing their French
Bonuses but not required:
- Preference will be given to psychology, linguistics, or other related major to Speech-Language Pathology (e.g., education, pre-med, etc.)
- Current or previous coursework in language development, phonetics, and/or other pre-SLP coursework.
