Mechanical Engineer

Description

Markon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the Naval Nuclear Laboratory’s repair technology development efforts in West Mifflin, PA. This position will work with a team of engineers to develop and evaluate established and novel repair technologies through laboratory test programs and commercial subcontracts, supporting stakeholders across the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters.

 

NOTE: This position requires regular onsite work at the Bettis location and may be performed remotely up to 10% of the time. An active DOE L clearance is required. Some travel to vendors and shipyards will be required to support project planning, equipment testing, and repair deployment.

Responsibilities

• Support repair technology development efforts through laboratory testing and commercial subcontract activities.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute engineering work efforts involving established and novel repair technologies.
• Develop technical designs, instructions, and procedures supporting repair technology development.
• Lead test programs in laboratory environments and through commercial subcontract efforts.
• Contribute to the development of novel repair techniques.
• Draft, place, monitor, and report on subcontracted repair method development and demonstration contracts.
• Support repair efforts involving epoxy and composite technologies, mechanical and machining processes, and arc welding technologies.
• Develop and interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and standards.
• Plan and execute engineering test programs.
• Design experiments supporting repair technology development and evaluation.
• Analyze experimental results and assist with the preparation of technical reports.
• Apply digital design and CAD capabilities to engineering activities.
• Support the use of digital data acquisition hardware and software, as applicable.
• Lead and execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.
• Work with vendors and shipyards to develop, test, evaluate, and ultimately qualify repair procedures.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and support organizations across the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters.
• Travel to vendors and shipyards to support project planning, equipment testing, and repair deployment activities.

Qualifications

Required:

• Must have an active DOE L clearance to be considered.
  • An active DoD Secret or above may be considered as well.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; OR
• Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Ability, or ability to learn, to develop and interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards.
• Ability to plan and execute test programs.
• Ability to design experiments and analyze experimental results.
• Ability to assist with the preparation of technical reports.
• Digital design and CAD skills.
• Ability to lead and execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.

Desired:

• Knowledge of materials engineering.
• Background in industrial operations.
• Familiarity with digital data acquisition hardware and software.
• Experience or ability to support the development, testing, evaluation, and eventual qualification of repair procedures in laboratory environments or through vendors and shipyards.
• Strong individual initiative and creativity.

Salary Range

USD $120,000.00 - USD $127,000.00 /Yr.The Markon pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
