The Risk Operations Specialist is responsible for protecting Mercury and its customers by conducting thorough reviews of customer accounts, transactions, and financial activities. This role supports compliance with regulatory requirements while delivering accurate, well-documented risk decisions across multiple operational functions.
The successful candidate will perform Know Your Customer (KYC/KYB) reviews, ongoing due diligence, sanctions screening, dispute investigations, and transaction risk assessments while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and audit readiness.
This position requires strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, exceptional written communication, and the ability to make risk-based decisions in a fast-paced fintech environment.

What You'll Do:

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct KYC/KYB onboarding reviews and customer verification.
• Perform Ongoing Due Diligence (ODD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews.
• Review sanctions alerts and screening results against OFAC and global watchlists.
• Investigate disputes and chargebacks while documenting findings.
• Review customer accounts, transaction limits, deposits, and over-limit activities.
• Prepare clear, accurate, and defensible case narratives.
• Escalate complex or ambiguous cases according to established policies.
• Maintain detailed audit trails and documentation for regulatory compliance.
• Meet quality standards while supporting service level expectations.
• Cross-train across multiple Risk Operations functions as business needs evolve.

Qualifications

Required

• 1+ years of experience in Risk Operations, Fraud, AML, KYC, Compliance, Banking, Fintech, or Financial Services.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

• Experience with sanctions screening tools such as Bridger, Firco, or WorldCompliance.
• Familiarity with Reg E, Visa Resolve Online, MasterCom, or similar platforms.
• Experience supporting regulated financial institutions.
