Description

The Media & Marketing Assistant supports the Belfast Community Co-op's mission to provide healthy food, build community, and strengthen the local economy by helping produce clear, timely, accurate, and mission-aligned marketing communications. This role supports day-to-day content creation, graphic design, signage, newsletters, website updates, social media, photography, digital asset organization, marketing request tracking, and department workflow.


The wage range is $20.00 to $22.00 per hour and this is a full-time (32-40 hours per week) role that may require nights and weekends based on department needs and approved events.


The position works closely with the Marketing & Outreach Manager, Events & Demo Coordinator, department managers, buyers, staff, and community partners. Work requires strong writing and visual judgment, attention to detail, organization, responsiveness, respect for deadlines, and the ability to balance creative production with routine administrative follow-through in a busy cooperative grocery environment.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to submit written and visual work samples as part of the application process; portfolio submission or link is welcome.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, verbal communication, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to create clear, accurate, and visually effective content for digital and print channels.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, track deadlines, stay organized, and maintain accuracy during interruptions or changing priorities.
  • Ability to follow brand standards, templates, approval processes, department priorities, and use or learn required systems, including shared drives, content platforms, social media tools, and basic design or production tools. 
  • Ability to identify missing information, ask appropriate questions, document project status, escalate workload or priority concerns, work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds, and perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • A valid Maine driver's license and insurable driving record are required, as this role involves driving to off-site events, tabling opportunities, and outreach locations and transporting related supplies and equipment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools.
  • Experience with social media planning, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, or comparable platforms. 
  • Experience with digital photography, short-form video, photo editing, or digital asset management. 
  • Experience creating signage, newsletters, printed collateral, promotional materials, or campaign content. 
  • Experience using task-management, workflow, calendar, or project-tracking tools in grocery, retail, food, nonprofit, community engagement, or cooperative settings.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands and work environment described here represent what is typically required for a marketing, communications, and creative production role in a busy grocery cooperative. Workers must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. The role regularly requires talking, listening, reading, writing, using a computer, using design and communication systems, handling paper records and printed materials, scanning or printing documents, and performing fine manipulation with hands and fingers. The role frequently requires sitting and may require standing, walking between office and retail areas, reaching, bending, carrying signs, files, collateral, display materials, or office supplies, and taking photos or videos in store areas or at events. Work is performed primarily in office, administrative, retail, and public-facing areas, with possible remote/focus work when approved. The environment may include moderate noise, frequent interruptions, customer traffic, changing deadlines, public interaction, and occasional evening or weekend assignments.


WORK AUTHORIZATION

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The Co-op follows all federal and Maine laws related to employment eligibility verification. The Co-op will not request more or different documents than required, refuse legally acceptable documents, or discriminate based on citizenship, immigration status, or national origin where protected by law.


BACKGROUND CHECK

The Co-op does not ask about criminal history on the initial application or state that applicants with criminal histories may not apply, except where a legal exception applies.
