Description
This position is classified as semi-skilled/skilled, full-time, and non-exempt, reporting directly to the Stormwater Crew Leader and the Stormwater Superintendent. The role involves conducting field inspections, performing maintenance tasks, operating equipment, and assisting with the Storm Water Management Plan to ensure compliance with City and State standard specifications and safety regulations. Additionally, the position requires maintaining records and preparing reports on inspected projects
Working Conditions

- Conducts construction and site inspections for compliance with site SWPPP, UPDS permits, land disturbance permits and City Storm Water Management Ordinance.
- Performs related work as required.
- Inspect and maintain stormwater drainage systems, including culverts, pipes, ditches, and catch basins.
- Remove debris, sediment, vegetation, and obstructions from stormwater facilities.
- Repair damaged stormwater infrastructure using hand and power tools.
- Operate equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, vacuum trucks, and mowers.
- Respond to flooding, drainage complaints, and emergency storm events.
- Install or replace stormwater pipes, inlets, grates, and erosion control measures.
- Perform routine mowing and vegetation management around drainage structures and retention ponds.
- Assist with street sweeping and debris removal as needed.
- Complete inspection reports, maintenance records, and work orders.
- Follow all OSHA, municipal, and environmental safety regulations.
- Assist with traffic control by setting up work zones using appropriate signage, barricades, and safety devices.
- Work in varying weather conditions and participate in emergency call-outs, overtime, or on-call rotations.
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Level 1 Stormwater Licensure required.
- CDL Preferred
- Construction Experience needed
- Considerable knowledge of public works construction management, inspection, methods and materials.
- Knowledge of surveying and surveying methods.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, other departments and the public.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of workplace safety standards and traffic control procedures
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of a drug screen and background investigation.
- Employees must work and/or walk on various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain, and/or confined spaces.
- Must possess physical ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, or climb for prolonged periods of time; work with and around equipment and machinery; moderate or light lifting and carrying; operate motorized equipment and vehicles
- The employee occasionally works on excavations and roadways and is often exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles.
