  • Own statutory compliance for lab-specific hazardous storage and process safety obligations.

Risk Management

Safe Systems of Work

  • Own Control of Work governance, including permits, risk assessments and task safety analysis for lab-owned activities.
  • Approve permits for laboratory infrastructure work, retaining sign-off authority for lab-owned activities.
  • Ensure consistent application of control-of-work standards across JLL-administered and lab-operations-led activities.

Incident Management & Emergency Response

  • Lead investigation and root-cause analysis of lab-related incidents and near-misses.
  • Oversee incident reporting and tracking systems (e.g. IRIS) and drive corrective and preventive actions to closure.
  • Own the emergency response and security model for out-of-hours facility alarms, fire strategy and evacuation readiness, in consultation with BP Security.
  • Ensure hazmat-trained spill response arrangements are in place for lab areas and the external storage yard.

Occupational Health

  • Hold clinical accountability for first aid, on-site medical response and occupational health provision, in coordination with the BP Health function.
  • Ensure adequate first-aid kit provisioning, trained-responder coverage and site medical response readiness.

Hazardous Materials, Waste & Environmental Management

  • Own classification and technical compliance of hazardous material storage and inventory.
  • Retain operational oversight of gas bottle and cylinder handling as a safety-critical activity.
  • Own classification and disposal accountability for laboratory-origin hazardous waste.
  • Own accountability, regulatory compliance and drainage segregation requirements for laboratory effluent and drainage, including oversight of Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) operation.

Training & Safety Culture

  • Own delivery of HSSE induction and refresher training (e.g. Management of Change system training) for new starters and system users.
  • Drive a strong site-wide safety culture and behavioural safety programme across lab operations and workplace/facilities teams.

Qualification & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline — essential.

Certification & Licenses

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate or Diploma — essential.
  • IOSH Managing Safely — desirable.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) certification.
  • ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and/or ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) lead auditor certification — desirable.
  • Working knowledge of India-specific statutory HSE requirements (Factories Act compliance, PESO awareness).

Experience Required

  • 10+ years' experience in HSSE roles within process, chemical, oil & gas or industrial laboratory environments.
  • 3+ years in a managerial or leadership HSSE role with demonstrated ownership of a site risk register and HSSE governance forum.
  • Experience with high-hazard operations and hazardous materials management, including regulatory compliance in an Indian operating context.
  • Experience leading incident investigations and facilitating or supporting HAZOP/HAZID studies.

Technical Competencies
