Overview
The Platform Data Engineer will join the Digital Engineering organization and provide technical support for digital applications and services that improve the customer and user experience and support strategic business initiatives.
This role participates in Agile development and engineering processes throughout the product lifecycle, including planning, implementation, reviews, and releases. The Platform Data Engineer will design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, secure, and highly available database solutions that support business and operational needs.
The position focuses on database performance, capacity, reliability, security, automation, and data availability while aligning solutions with industry standards and best practices. This role works with minimal supervision and collaborates across engineering, data, and technology teams to support operational goals and technical initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage advanced cloud database architectures to support scalability, reliability, security, and availability.
- Partner with Agile development teams and utilize Liquibase to manage database schema changes.
- Monitor database environments and optimize performance, availability, and capacity.
- Develop and maintain database backup policies, data retention policies, and disaster recovery plans.
- Conduct in-depth database performance analysis and implement tuning and optimization initiatives.
- Develop advanced automation scripts and workflows to improve the efficiency and reliability of database operations.
- Implement and maintain encryption, security controls, and secure data management practices.
- Support regulatory compliance and data governance initiatives related to database environments.
- Diagnose and resolve complex database issues with minimal supervision while maintaining data integrity and availability.
- Collaborate with Agile development, engineering, and data teams to align database strategies with technical and business objectives.
- Analyze operational data and develop recommendations to improve quality, performance, reliability, and decision-making.
- Develop and maintain technical, process, and operational documentation.
- Track work in accordance with established team processes and ensure tasks and backlog items are accurately documented.
- Prepare and deliver clear and concise technical communications to engineering teams, stakeholders, and management.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Participate throughout the Agile product lifecycle, including planning, implementation, reviews, and releases.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 5–7 years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or a related technical discipline.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Azure SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and enterprise database platforms.
- Advanced experience designing, testing, and deploying database backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Advanced experience with database performance tuning, monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Experience developing advanced automation scripts and workflows for database operations.
- Advanced knowledge of regulatory frameworks applicable to enterprise data environments.
- Advanced knowledge of secure data practices and data governance principles.
- Experience designing scalable database solutions and resolving complex performance bottlenecks.
- Advanced analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and deductive reasoning skills.
- Demonstrated experience performing advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex technical issues.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills with the ability to manage concurrent priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present findings, recommendations, alternatives, and technical information.
- Experience working with staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors and building effective professional relationships.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certification preferred.
- Hands-on experience using Liquibase to manage database schema changes preferred.
- Experience supporting platform engineering, infrastructure, cloud, digital, or software engineering organizations preferred.
- Experience supporting application modernization or decommissioning initiatives preferred.
- Experience working with risk, audit, cybersecurity, compliance, or regulatory initiatives preferred.
- Experience within banking or financial services environments preferred.
