General Manager - Plantation Operations

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Manager to oversee multiple plantations. As the General Manager, you will be responsible for managing and directing the activities of farm managers across various plantations, ensuring efficient and effective operations. You will report directly to the Executive Director and play a pivotal role in achieving organizational goals and maintaining the highest standards of plantation management.

 

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership and guidance to farm managers, ensuring they adhere to established agricultural practices, protocols, and safety regulations.
• Develop and implement operational plans and strategies to optimize plantation productivity, yield, and profitability.
• Monitor and evaluate plantation performance by reviewing key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions.
• Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance management of farm managers and other plantation staff, ensuring a skilled and motivated workforce.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of plantation operations.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and other senior leaders to develop and implement budgetary plans and financial forecasts for the plantations.
• Monitor market trends, agricultural innovations, and technological advancements to identify opportunities for optimization and growth within the plantation operations.
• Ensure compliance with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations and develop and implement sustainable practices.
• Provide regular reports and updates to the Executive Director on plantation performance, challenges, and opportunities.

 

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Plantation Management, or a related field is advantageous but not required.
• Proven experience of at least 5 years in managing plantations in the agricultural industry, with a focus on pineapple, durian, rubber and/or timber.
• Strong knowledge of plantation management practices, including crop planning, cultivation techniques, pest and disease management, and harvest operations.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team of farm managers and plantation staff.
• Excellent financial acumen and experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
• Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting data, such as KPIs, to drive operational improvements and decision-making.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with sustainable agriculture practices and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, adapting to changing priorities and handling multiple responsibilities effectively.
• Knowledge of relevant local and national agricultural regulations and compliance requirements.
