Role Overview

The Lead Engine Dynamics Engineer builds analytical models of the full engine or rig to enable design assessment and calculation of unbalance and flight maneuver design loads to assist in vibration-related problem solving and test data interpretation for technology maturation for both new and fielded products.  The role will interface with Design teams, Systems teams, and customers to work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead engine dynamics assessments for development, production, and in-service programs.
• Develop dynamic models of engine components, modules, and systems to predict behavior under operating and transient conditions.
• Assess vibration and stability risks and define mitigation strategies to improve durability and operability.
• Support Design teams with recommendations for geometry, stiffness, damping, clearances, balance, and support structure changes.
• Define instrumentation and test requirements for dynamic measurement in component, rig, and engine testing.
• Analyze test data to correlate analytical models and improve prediction accuracy.
• Lead root cause investigations for vibration issues, resonance concerns, field events, or durability findings.
• Collaborate with Systems, Mechanical Design, Controls, Structures, and Test organizations to resolve engine dynamic issues.
• Support certification or qualification documentation related to dynamic performance and integrity.
• Present technical findings, risks, and recommendations at design and program reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in engine dynamics methods and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university (or a High School Diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in engineering)
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering
• This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possess a current US Government Security Clearance
• Familiarity with vibration analysis, vibration testing and rotor dynamics analysis methods
• Understanding of VISTA, NASTRAN, LSDYNA or other finite element computer codes (modeling and dynamic analysis)
• Familiarity with Matlab/Python
• Interest in continuing to improve standard processes and improve best practices
• Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
• Solid oral and written communication skills
• Effective problem identification and solution skills
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to influence others and work in small teams
• Proven analytical and organizational ability, including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
