Maintenance Senior Engineer

Overview

The Maintenance Senior Engineer is a member of the Production Department at Mobis South Carolina Electrified Powertrain (MSCe) and is responsible for supporting maintenance operations and ensuring the reliability of production equipment and plant utility systems.This role focuses on advanced troubleshooting, equipment reliability improvement, utility system stability, and technical support to maintain safe, continuous, and efficient production operations.

 

The position supports preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities while analyzing equipment performance, identifying root causes, and implementing reliability improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to support equipment installation, commissioning, plant startup activities, system improvements, and operational readiness.

Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

 

• Perform advanced troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
• Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5 Why, 8D).
• Support rapid response and recovery for equipment breakdown events.
• Monitor and analyze downtime and drive corrective actions.
• Support troubleshooting of PLC, robotics, and automated equipment systems.

Utilities Management

 

• Support the operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, compressed air systems (compressors, dryers, and piping), HVAC systems, and facility infrastructure.
• Monitor utility system conditions and ensure stable utility supply to production operations.
• Assist in energy efficiency and utility optimization initiatives.
• Support preventive maintenance activities for utility systems.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

 

• Execute and improve preventive maintenance (PM) activities using SAP PM.
• Support predictive maintenance and equipment reliability improvement initiatives.
• Participate in planned shutdown and maintenance activities.
• Identify and implement improvements to reduce equipment failures and downtime.

Production Support

 

• Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and EHS teams to support plant operations.
• Ensure equipment readiness and support stable production operations.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and production ramp-up activities.
• Review equipment drawings, layouts, and technical documentation to improve maintainability and equipment performance.

Continuous Improvement

 

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and downtime reduction.
• Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives to improve equipment reliability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Analyze equipment performance data and recommend improvement actions.
• Assist in standardizing maintenance procedures, troubleshooting methods, and best practices.

Health, Safety & Compliance

 

• Follow OSHA safety standards and internal safety procedures.
• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Identify potential safety risks and support corrective actions.
• Participate in safety audits, inspections, and improvement activities.
• Support environmental compliance requirements and EHS initiatives.

Reporting & Documentation

 

• Maintain accurate maintenance records and SAP work order documentation.
• Track and report maintenance KPIs including downtime, PM completion, equipment reliability, and OEE.
• Support reporting of breakdown trends and continuous improvement activities.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

AUTHORITY & SCOPE

Individual contributor role responsible for providing technical expertise and maintenance support for manufacturing equipment and utility systems

May provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, specialists, and technicians

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes, this role will provide technical leadership and day-to-day work direction to Engineers, Specialists, and Technicians. Coordinate maintenance activities, task assignments, and troubleshooting priorities to support production requirements. Mentor junior team members and support technical skill development and knowledge transfer. Support performance improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to maintenance standards, safety requirements, and best practices

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

 

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
• Strong hands-on experience in troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and utility systems

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Hands-on experience with PLC, robotics, and automated manufacturing equipment
• Knowledge of electrical systems, compressed air systems, HVAC systems, and industrial utilities
• Experience with SAP PM or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
• Understanding of FMEA, root cause analysis, and manufacturing quality systems
• Knowledge of IATF 16949:2016 and VDA 6.3 requirements
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Preferred Education & Experience

 

• Experience in automotive, EV, or battery manufacturing environments
• Experience in high-volume production operations
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to interpret technical drawings
• Experience with PLC programming and industrial automation systems
• Experience supporting new equipment installation, commissioning, and production ramp-up activities
• Ability to communicate in Korean, both written and verbal, is a plus but not required
