Safety and Security Representative

Overview

Knowledge Services is currently seeking a Safety and Security Representative for a contract through the end of May 2027 with the NCAA.

 

Work Location: Downtown Indianapolis - hybrid schedule 1-2 days in the office and the rest would work remotely.  Might have light travel (expenses will be covered).

 

Responsibilities

Safety and Security Representative Summary:

• The Safety and Security Program Specialist position enhances the NCAA's ability to proactively manage safety, security, and operational risks across national office operations, championships, conventions, and other NCAA-sponsored events.

• This role provides dedicated support for threat monitoring, emergency preparedness, executive protection, incident response, investigative activities, championship security operations, and external public safety partnerships while helping develop and implement best practices, training programs, and security protocols that safeguard NCAA personnel, student-athletes, officials, and event participants.

• Under the direction of the Director of Corporate Safety and Security, this position provides operational, analytical, and programmatic support for NCAA safety and security initiatives.

• The role assists with event security planning, emergency preparedness, social media threat monitoring, facility safety activities, security training, external partner coordination, and other risk-based assignments supporting NCAA people, places, and events.

• This position expands the Safety and Security unit's capacity to address growing demands related to championship security, workplace safety, threat management, emergency preparedness, social media threat monitoring, executive protection, public safety partnerships, and enterprise resilience.

• The role creates a dedicated support resource to improve consistency, documentation, readiness, and operational follow-through across NCAA safety and security programs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Event, Convention, and Championship Support• Support safety and security planning and operations for the NCAA national convention and other NCAA-sponsored events.• Provide acute support for NCAA championships and other events as determined by the Director of Corporate Safety and Security.• Assist with security planning, event action plans, operational checklists, incident response coordination, and after-action review activities.• Support Men's and Women's Final Four or other event command center functions as needs arise.• Support safety and security planning for other NCAA-sponsored programs and events, including Impact Forum, Regional Rules, and Community Engagement activities.

 

Safety and Security Program Development• Draft and maintain safety and security best practices, protocols, planning tools, checklists, and guidance documents.• Support updates to crisis management, emergency action, facility safety, and championship security materials.• Assist with development of repeatable processes that improve consistency across NCAA events and national office operations.

 

Facility Safety and Security• Assist in facility safety and security assessments, emergency drills, response plans, training, and readiness exercises.• Support emergency action planning, active assailant preparedness, crisis plan training, and related employee safety initiatives.• Help document observations, corrective actions, and follow-up items from exercises and assessments.

 

Threat Monitoring, Investigations, and Social Media Support• Support threat monitoring, incident intake, investigative work, documentation, and escalation of safety or security concerns.• Assist with Signify-related efforts to monitor social media threats, online abuse, and event-related risk indicators.• Prepare summary reporting, trend observations, and recommended mitigation actions for leadership review.

 

Executive Protection and High-Profile Event Support• Provide executive protection support as needed for NCAA leadership, high-profile meetings, public appearances, and sponsored events.• Assist with risk assessments, venue coordination, protective logistics, and liaison activities with external security partners.

 

External Partner and Public Safety Coordination• Support external partner opportunities and relationship management with agencies such as CISA, Homeland Security, Secret Service, law enforcement, emergency management, and other public safety partners.• Assist with information sharing, tabletop exercises, training opportunities, and coordinated planning efforts.

 

Sports Betting and Other Risk Support• Provide targeted support for sports betting, integrity, or threat-related matters as needs arise.

Qualifications

Safety and Security Representative Qualifications include:

• Must possess at least 10 years of experience in the security field (Special event operations)

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, emergency management, homeland security, public safety, or a related discipline preferred.

• Experience in safety and security, emergency management, event operations, threat monitoring, investigations, law enforcement, military service preferred.• Strong writing, analytical, project coordination, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.• Ability to work with sensitive information, exercise sound judgment, and coordinate across internal departments and external partners.• Ability to effectively facilitate training exercises, tabletops and after-action meetings.• Ability to travel and provide evening, weekend, or event-based support when operational needs require.• Certifications - Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), FEMA ICS/NIMS Training
