Description
Are you a seasoned professional with a passion for ensuring public safety and upholding construction standards? Chatham County Building Safety and Regulatory Services is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director to join our team. In this key leadership role, you'll leverage your expertise in building systems and code enforcement to help administer county codes and ordinances, provide crucial interpretations, and supervise departmental operations. If you hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Architecture or Engineering and have a strong background in construction management or code enforcement, we encourage you to apply.
Applicants who possess the International Codes Council (ICC) Certified Building Official (CBO) designation are highly encouraged to apply.Under the direction of the Director of Building Safety and Regulatory Services you
- Exercise your independent judgment and initiative as you leverage your knowledge of entire building systems, management practices, and procedures in code inspections.
- Assist in administering county codes and ordinances, state and federal laws, and act as the department head in the absence of the Director.
- Interpret and offer advice on construction plans, codes, ordinances, and blueprints.
- Keep the Director and others informed concerning work progress and identification of possible violations and defects in construction.
- Develop solutions and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports to include your findings and recommendations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County Officials, internal and external departmental personnel, local businesses, industry professionals, homeowners, and citizens.
- Provide in-house training and supervise field inspectors and clerical staff in code inspection operations.
- Respond to citizens’ questions and comments in a timely and courteous manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, and
- At least two (2) years of experience in building construction management, OR
- At least four (4) years of code enforcement experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must possess or be able to obtain the International Codes Council (ICC) Certified Building Official (CBO) designation within a specified timeframe.
